    Quite good food and atmosphere

    I have eaten at Candle Cafe twice and enjoyed myself both times. The restaurant has been very busy even on weeknights, but I thought the service was good both times. The food is excellent, a mix of vegan options. I am a carnivore but I thought everything I tried was delicious, including an Indian platter special and the cajun seitan sandwich. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, both for vegans / vegetarians and for carnivores alike.

    Prices raised 80% since last year

    I took a friend here for his birthday, and was shocked to find that the entree prices were now around $19-20 average whereas 1 year ago they were $11 average. The portions were also considerably smaller compared to last year. The service was slow. My friend had the Chipolte Salad Tofu and said it was very tasty. I had the carrot soup (excellent) and also the Sauteed Daily Vegetables. The serving of vegetables was small (for $5), and the vegetables were limp and tasteless. I asked the waitress for a sauce to put on them, and this helped. Not sure if I was charged for this. The bill for two people was very high: $35 including tax. The place was packed, so a lot of people are putting up with these prics. I won't go back.

    Disappointing and weird wine pricing

    So disappointing. The place is lovely but the food was cold and what really got me is the way they price the wine. They have 2 options- 3 ounces (est.$9) and then a glass - which is supposedly 6 ounces at about $15-$16 which is served in a tumbler. When asked if one received the right order (it's hard to tell), they spend a lot of time explaining to you that the glass makes it look like less than it is because it's wide on the bottom, not something I need to hear when i'm trying to have a nice dinner. so unworthy particularly for an experienced restauranteur

    I'll Take A Smile With That

    I've eaten there twice and both times noticed the same thing about the place: Tasty food, good sized portions, and horrific service. I had a different server each time and neither one of them cracked a smile once. The servers in that place look like their walking around in a concentration camp. On my first visit (which was a date) I had a few questions about the menu because I hadn't eaten there before and when I asked for a recommendation for salad dressing the waitress said, "I don't know, we have 12 of them" Okay...that wasn't the least bit helpful. She was obviously busy and frazzled because the place was packed and she had a visibly annoying family with loud kids to deal with as well. I get that, but damn honey lighten up a bit! The second time around I went ate there by myself, placed my order right away and didn't ask any questions. Again the person waiting on me was running up and down the restaurant in a frenzy and didn't check on me at all, just dropped the check after a bus boy cleared my plate. Totally rude but not at all surprising. The food is good, and I would go back. The one big problem with that place is the wait staff, if only they could get it right, the place would be golden.

    Very slow delivery. Cold food

    I waited over an hour for a delivery placed in the middle of the afternoon. When my order finally arrived it was cold. Very disappointing.

    This Place is one of the best vegetarian restaurant in the UES. After eating their food, I instantly thought I could be vegetarian eating these food... This place is that good.

    Went from favorite place to disappointing in one night!

    To be fair I've only been here twice (both times with my same friend). And the first time was great! Great food! Nice staff! And fun!My friend and myself both enjoyed it and even talked about bringing our vegetarian friend their for dinner sometime soon. The second time OMG!! We were greeted by our waitress before we could even sit down or being said hi to with "our kitchen is closing in 15 min. do you know what you want?" We asked for a menu, and were immediately within a minute or two asked do you know what you want? It was rush, rush, rush, and we had only been their less than 5 min. Felling super rushed we each just ordered exactly what we had the las time. I also tried to order a glass of wine but she left before I could. Can you believe that!! Anyway we wait for our food, and it does come fast! Excited to eat the nice food I had before I bite in and OMG!! I can't believe it! It has no taste at all! Bland as can be. My first time there I clean my plate and loved it. This time I can't even choke down my food. My friends food?? Same way! He said no flavor whatsoever at all, and he leaves about half of it on his plate as well. Being vegetarian I had high hopes for this place and I'm still planning on giving them one last shot, 'cause the first time was good. Had my second time been my first time I would have never gone back!!! My friend who was planning on bringing a date who is vegetarian there, has said he will never go back again! And I can't blame him. Oh and we never see the waitress until the check
