This place was a great choice on paper. Arrived last Sunday right on time for dinner with a couple of friends but had to wait for 10 mins. So we ordered cocktails and the drinks never arrived even after we were seated fo 25 mins !! The food was tasty but service was not very courteous by the chage-over waitress. A request for freshly brewed coffee after the meal was not well received by the waitress - she wanted to get rid of us ASAP! Not sure if I want to visit again....

I did have a great time there. Had a brunch ( scramble tofu, with sliced potato, little salad, a whole wheat bread with strawberry butter, which by the way gave a nice touch!). the homemade ginger ale was very refreshing but with too much ginger for my taste. The service was great and i got full attention and was given nice advices on what to take due to my diabetes. Certainly I'll be back before leaving NY.

You haven't experienced kale until you've tried the grilled kale salad at Candle 79! I follow a vegan diet and it is so refreshing to eat at a restaurant where everything is safe. But forget safe...everything there is delish! OK...beware of the seaweed salad if you don't really like seaweed. This isn't the stuff you get at your local Japanese spot...this is the REAL fresh thing. My dining partner had that and although she loved the flavors...the texture didn't work for her (she wished she had my kale!:) The angel nachos were delicious as well...the seitan was smokey and simply yummmmmm. And the brownie dessert was sinful...so wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience, right down to the service and will definitely be back!

Candle79 was a recommendation. I didn't know what to expect, and was not disappointed. My friend and I sat upstairs. Unfortunately, the food which was delicious was lukewarm. We shared dessert, the Apple Crumb Pie- wonderful. We're returning in two weeks and will ask for a table on the lower level.

but I really enjoyed eating at Candle 79. Everything tasted super fresh and the drinks were delicious. Usually, when I eat meatless meals, it feels as though something is missing: but not so in this case! The decor was lovely, and our waitress was very attentive and helpful. I thought it was great.

My son, who happens NOT to be vegan, decided to take me to Candle 79 for Mother's day. I was so excited that this was to be my first experience at a vegan restaurant. I was very dissatisfied with the food and the decor. My son ordered a bottle of wine and when it came to the table, the waiter UNSCREWED the cap. This was a $50.00 bottle of wine. Embarrassing. His food was lukewarm, very bland and dry. Embarrassing. My food was just OK. The booth was so close to the bar and the dining area was SMALL. So dissappointed.

I would recommend this restaurant. Not really for vegetarians though. It has a good atmosphere. A tiny bit pricey. The food is good, there is also good service.
