Hold onto your wallet!
This is one of our friend's favorite restautrants. I have been here 3-4 times, and like it alot. BUT, be extremely careful The specials are way over the top price wise, so ASK the prices. Also, efficiency is one thing, but the waiters are TOO quick to clear the table, as though they were lined up outside waiting to refill the tables. Not at all relaxing. The quality of the food is excellent, just too pricey

Our favorite Italian restaurant in NYC
My husband and I discovered this little gem on our first visit to New York as a married couple. I forget who recommended it and I do remember it was hard to find the first time, but now we never come to New York without eating here! We love the fact that it is small and quaint and you can tell the locals from the tourists. The wait staff is superb and we have always found the food to be excellent as well! Give it a try and I know you won't be disappointed.

Always a great experience
We are long-time customers of Canaleto and have always had wonderful meals served by an attentive and friendly staff. So much so that we rented it out for a party. Highly recommended.

Elegant Neighbourhood Gem
This is sort of a hidden neighbourhood gem. Not very famous and totally tourist free. The food is superb, the service is great. The whole place is strangely robust, not very ingratiating but well worked and high class. A funny detail: the owner looks like the hotel owner in Fawlty towers.

Very stuffy and pretentious
I went here with my husband and it was a much older crowd. The staff wasn't friendly...they made it seem like I didn't belong there. Definitely wouldn't go here for a fun night out

Not recommended
Food: bland, tired, lukewarm, helpless. Sodden, tasteless risotto, limp salad, Sara Lee dessert tray. Might be fun on Arthur Ave. or in New Haven but not at these prices or in this neighborhood. Atmosphere: final hours of a friendless person's wake. Service: Non-Italian non-speakers of Italian doing Enrico Caruso imitations. If you're there after 8:30: Staff leaning on the bar and looking at their watches as Mega 97.9 blasts on the kitchen radio to the crash of crockery and silverware, echoing through the mostly empty dining room. Value: prices are moderate for the location but high considering the pretensions of the place and the mediocrity of the food.

Not good ...
The food was not good ... ordered linguine with mushrooms in a garlic and oil sauce. The pasta was mushy and tasted like it was soaked in butter. Did not taste any garlic or olive oil. Would NEVER return to this place. There are so many better quality restaurants in NYC.
