Uber satisfied with food, unimpressed with service
I've been to several sushi joints in the area. The food here surpasses them all. I tend to go during the lunch rush hour and I understand why service isn't the greatest. However, my last experience, the waitress threw everything at me on the table. I saw the other waitress tending to her customers much better, and even exchanged pleasantries. My waitress just wanted me to hurry up and eat and leave. A previous time I went here, it was much better service but still not above avg at all. Take out is probably the best way to go for Canaan.

Poor food, poor customer service
There are enough mediocre places around that you don't need to waste your money here. Ordered a little after the lunch time rush- received old salmon and mushy sushi. Yes it's cheap. But I could have ripped up $28 rather than spending it on food I had to throw away. Even called and complained and they told me I was wrong and that the food was fine!

Don't be scared off by the location!
After my old standby delivery sushi restaurant closed for renovation, I started looking online for a good sushi delivery restaurant in my neighborhood. I saw Canaan, and I have to be honest, I was a little sketched out by its location. 29th Street between 6th and 7th? Pretty dirty block to procure fresh sushi from, I thought. Man, was I pleasantly surprised. Canaan has incredibly fresh fish, and for the price I really think it's some some of the best sushi in the city. Obviously, if you intend to eat in the restaurant, it's nothing special -- pretty stripped down, basic restaurant decor -- but the food is excellent, the prices fair, and the delivery is incredibly speedy. All I'll say is - don't be scared off by the location. Canaan is the real thing. Give it a shot. It's perfect for delivery sushi or a low-key eat-in experience.

Wow
I stayed at a hotel on the block, got a hair cut a few doors down and sat at the Sushi Bar. I ordered what's called a Monster Roll (10 bucks). It was by far the best Sushi I've ever had. Nice pieces of Tuna, a little cream cheese, avacado, rolled with a couple sauces, pieces of mango and some cruchy topping. It was the best flavor. I wanted to get hungry again, just to eat more. No soy sauce needed. The flavor, texture and WOW was such a nice surprise. This was on a Thursday (7/14/2011) night and they had two Chefs working the Sushi Bar, none stop. They seem to mainly do take out, but they obviously move product. I will be back! It's not your Asian-Fusion Foo-Foo place, but I want to have that Monster again!

Good food, poor service
I went here when it was busy, so I understand the food taking awhile, but I didn't need to wait 15 minutes for the check. The sushi i ordered was really good, I just felt like I was there foreverrr. The place was also very loud, the converstaions i had with my friends was a series of yellings and rantings. Get take out or delivery.

Great food!
I went here w/ a friend for the first time a few months ago & have found many ways to go back. It was my first time eating Japanese & I really enjoy it. I go for their bento box. I feel they're very affordable.

Best Sushi Rolls
I come to Sushi Canaan because I love the way they make sushi rolls. Lots of choices, very fresh sushi. Try their sushi roll specials!
