    Awesome pastries

I get banana bread from here almost everyday... and sometimes pumpkin or the apple cake.. The pastries (and cookies) are awesome and fresh (often still warm). I've had their sandwiches and quesadillas too. I'm quite surprised at some of the poor ratings here - I'm the most attractive place in NYC)... but the customer service is awesome and the food is good...

    Hmmm

Got take-out from there tonight and the service was GREAT. They even gave us free cookies =) But, and I know this because people have said the same thing as well, they're a bit..lacking. They are not generous with the amount of food they provide. The "shrimp scampi" had what, maybe five shrimp in it. The "filet de sole" was so small it was almost non-exsistant. But other than that, it was okay. We spent about 30 bucks, but I won't be spending that amount of money there again.

    Best Croissants!

I didn't like the other food there, but am addicted to their croissants. Supper soft, moist, buttery, and always freshly baked.

Not great food, some things are decent.

I think the title pretty much says it...value is pretty much the only reason I come to Camille's. The $3.50 breakfast combo is hard to beat. I come here for that and the fact that professor's always schedule lunches here...

    Good for the soul

[pls note, my ratings for service, etc. concern only the take out counter, where baked goods are sold] I am a French citizen who is now naturalized and lives in New York City. I work at Columbia University and will buy their croissants and cheese danishes. As any frenchman in America knows, finding the right croissant is difficult. I had given up on trying to find a perfect match (like the slightly sweet taste of the French croissant's crust). In fact, given up altogether until I found Camille. Their croissants are near-perfect. First, they're small (ie, the normal size), not the bloated behemoths so many french bistros trying to pass as croissants. And the owner got the proofing and moisture level in his oven just right (that's the hardest part of baking a croissant). The finished product is light and airy, and once you had one, you want another and another. Their cheese danish will remind you of a French pain au chocolat, except that it is filled with a slightly sweet cheese mousse which will have you sing arias. There is something profoundly satisfying about Camille's croissants and danishes. They await in the window, you bag them yourself right from the metal trays that came from the oven (so they're often still warm). Anyhoo, I could just go on. Well, the next best thing to traveling to Paris and getting some croissants and chouquettes from that Artisan Boulanger you know on rue de la Convention is to come to Camille... it's worth it

    Always consistantly good

Camilles has been a place I visit often for a couple of years and its always fresh and delicious. The prices are great and its a perfect place for a neighborhood lunch. I've been there many times and never had a bad experience.

    Disappointing

If you ever go to this restaurant I highly suggest you don't have the london broil. I asked for it medium rare and got a nice presentation on top - once you turned it over however the london broil was charred and burnt and was on the border of over well-done which was upsetting since it smelled good. the mashed potatoes were good but the "steamed vegetables" were also lacking as I got mostly carrots with 1 artichoke and a few slices of something else.
