The Biggest Mistake in El Barrio
OMG...we waited two hours for our food...the only good thing was the wings...you had to scream to hear each other...you literally touched elbows with strangers...and, the women's bathroom (I don't dare tell you what I found)...Stay away is the best i can say.

don't even bother to visit this place
ghetto crowd with slow service. they chage $5 just to get in, ridiculous! there are tons of much better places to go in NYC, don't waste your time and money here. If you like to stay in this neighborhood, Amor Cubano or Ricardo will be a better choice!!

very disappointing!
I've lived in this neighborhood for 5 years and had never visited this place until yesterday. I went with my bf and planned to use our groupon voucher for a dinner take-out. My first impression was that this place looks like a tiny dive bar with live salsa music, and they charge $5 cover for admission. First, since I went for a take-out, I figured I didn't have to pay for the $5 cover. Because of that, I had to place my order and wait for my food outside. Second, it took me 20 minutes just to place my order OUTDOORS, because they ran out of almost everything on the menu. They didn't even have any salad left and that was like 8pm. Third, the waitress told us she couldn't place our order unless we ordered more than $30. We told her we didn’t mind to use less value of the voucher, and also it wasn’t mentioned on groupon fine print. And they ran out of the food I wanted to try as well. She refused to take our order until we had ordered over $30. Fourth, it took us 45 minutes to wait for the food OUTDOORS. Sixth, they charged me 15% tips for a take-out. Seriousely, I eat out at least 4 times a week and have been using goroupon dining out for more than a year. I’d never heard a restaurant charge 15% tips for a take-out. The only good thing I can say from my experience is that the food was not bad! If you have purchased this deal and have never been to the restaurant, here are my suggestions. First, be mental prepared that you aren't going to a restaurant, think that you're going to a very small dive bar with salsa live music. Second, if you are like me not ashamed of using your groupons out of the best value, call first and find out which day the $5 cover per person can be waived since you cannot use your groupon voucher for the cover. Third, have drinks and listen to the live bands instead of having the meal there because it's going to take you forever. Also a live band in this small place is not the best place to enjoy your meal and have a conversation with friends. Fourth, don't order a take-out because you will end up waiting for your food outside forever and still need to pay the 15% tips for no reason. Fifth, my last suggestion is, request a refund credit from Groupon.

the Mofongo is not worth the price
The atomsphere was nice. However the Mofongo dishes that almost everyone in our group ordered did not live up to its hype. It was okay, but certainly not worth $14/$15 given the quality and size of the dish. I do not reccomend that dish, it's a waste of money.

why is it so amazing here??
well maybe it's amazing because the owners get it! the bartender Joe, is the best kinda' bartender in the whole world... the best beer list on the upper east and maybe in all of manhattan, that Joe guy really knows his stuff, this by far is my favorite bar in nyc. the night to go is Thursday, the music is nuttttts! of course Yerbabuena plays there every Thursday... there may be two other restaurants on the block and they need to take notes. the decor is sick! very dark and sexy... makes you wanna' be naughty... you can not help feel the malice of the party spirit when you go there... if by chance you're there when the sun is still out, and the owners mom and dad is there, you'll get a great feeling of a family owned business, they rock too! lol... this is the best place in east harlem... thank you!

Take your time, do it right!
I've been coming here for a couple years now. Def. recommend this spot! Might be planning a lil' Birthday party there for my best friend next month. Not the place to go if you're in a rush... but if you wanna relax & have a great meal then go to CAMARADAS. I truly LOVE the sangria, and the beers on-tap ain't bad either. I've seen some awesome bands there (i think they only perform on the weekend. A couple were just so-so, but that was a rare occasion. I also really dig their DJ on Friday night; he spins a very cool mix of stuff -- nice energy!

Best in El Barrio
SO... I'm cuban american. I'm NOT a fan of EL BARRIO. However, when i crave good cuban food - i always get the avocado shrimp salad and a churasco sandwich and my friends and i share a pitcher of sangria... it's the BEST STEAK SANDWICH EVER. believe me. My dads a chef... and I'm a picky eater. TRUST ME. the bartender is always super nice... and the sangria is really good. HAPPY HOUR THERE IS GREAT. no complaints so far... i go there about 4 times a week. =)
