    Love it!

    I couldn't believe the reviews.. I have been here 3-4 times within the past 2 months and each time is better than the time before. I absolutely love this place. The atmosphere is comfy lounge, dim lighting, upbeat music, great food and even better service. I go to Jeovanny, he is the best, he is attentive and he remembered my friend and I and my beverage preferences. This is where you go when you just want to relax and have great food. Get the Coconut Mojito it's my favorite!

    Not recommended

    I hadn't been to Calle Ocho in years (before it moved to the Excelsior Hotel). I have a very hard time believing this is the same restaurant. First off, our food arrived about 6 minutes after placing the order. NOTHING takes only 6 minutes to prepare, unless it's not actually being prepared to order. Furthermore, when one of the dishes is paella, then 6 minutes is entirely unacceptable. The "sweet & green plantains" were fried plantain chips that were neither sweet or even warm. The Camarones were sweet shrimp on top of an unappetizing seemingly asian inspired avocado "salad." I love avocado, but this was bordering on inedible. The Paella tasted like Uncle Ben's rice that seafood was thrown on top of at the end. The rice had no flavor at all from the seafood, no toasted bottom, and the seafood was cold. You can't even pretend the seafood was cooked in the rice if it's COLD! The stuffed chicken was acceptable, but it's supposed to come with sausage and I got 1 tiny half inch diameter sliver of sausage. The only things I can recommend from Calle Ocho are the rolls.

    The Best Latino restaurant NYC

    its the best restaurant in the whole city. i loved the food and sangrias brunch its awesome. im coming BACK here every weekend.

    I love this restaurant..the atmosphere was lively with a comforting ambiance. cant wait to go back for my favorite sangria

    We had reservation for a party of 3 for 5:45, we arrived on time,the place is lovely we were escorted to our table and we ordered different drinks. I did not like the mojito it tasted too sour. I ordered a pitcher of white sangria it was wonderful. The food was great. i will come back.

    Best brunch

    We had heard good things about this place and I am really glad we tried it out. The unlimited (free) Sangria is delicious! The bread basket is yummy with nice variety, also refilled when requested. And the entrees were very, very good. Service is great too. It is getting increasingly popular though, so make reservations well in advance..1 month or so. It is more than worth it!

    Last night we enjoyed a fabulous Latin inspired meal at Calle Ocho. As soon as we entered this warm, beautifully decorated space our spirits were lifted to party mode! Before we even glanced at the menu we were sipping coconut mojitos and munching on Calle's complimentary warm corn biscuits and black bean spread. All that was just a prelude for the palate pleasing dinner that was to follow. For appetizers we had Calle's version of fried calamari - lightly battered and flash fried drizzled with a sweet sauce and topped with a crunchy cabbage and sprout salad. The consistency of the two together was a party in my mouth! We also had a green salad which in reality was so much more! Beautiful ruby red and golden yellow beets over greens with a dollop of creamy goat cheese and toast. The heirloom tomatoes topped by a goat cheese fritter surrounded by a trio of sauces was as much a treat for the eyes as it was to eat. For dinner, many of us chose the evening's special - a moist chicken breast marinated in a balsamic reduction tinged with cumin, along with glazed brussel sprouts served over a mound of fluffy mashed potatoes. Sea bass was the other choice which cooked to moist perfection and complemented by garlic sauteed spinach, tomato and bacon all atop creamy risotto. All of our entrees were complemented by a great bottle of Ontañón Crianza 2007 wine. The subtle fruit and silky finish of this Spanish gem from the Rioja region put this meal over the top!
