Caliente Cab Co
Posted by Debbie from Long Island on 03/15/2007
My family went on a Saturday evening. We were seat at a table in their “other” room. They have about six tables jammed into a very little space. We waited for almost an hour for our meal. My husband’s appetizer was server with my daughter’s dinner. When my food arrived the cheese was all congealed and gross looking. So I set it back. At that point the waiter asked if he could replace my dish which I answer no. I had enough, I just wanted to get out of there. No one else stopped by our table and when we left the waiters were laughing. It is totally a tourist trap ~ don’t go there.

I went to Caliente Cab with three friends a Friday at 7p. The place was exploding with people (quarters seem a bit tight) and music. The waiter forgot to bring our buffalo wings. The place was poorly lit; we couldn't see our menus. A busboy was almost ushering us out by continually asking if we were done. BUT, the food was delicious and substantial. Also, the place does have a mex-feel to it. If you want mexican, you may want to consider another place; perhaps a Chevy's.

We thought this place might be good b/c of the crowds of people...but it was not. The food was bland, I could have made it better, the service was poor - our waiter never once checked on us, I had to flag someone else down to get some water. The guacomole was good, but simple...I could make it just as easily and for a LOT cheaper!

I know this is NYC, but a $15 margarita? It wasn't even that good. But, I forgot you get to keep the cheesy glass. Whatever. Service was poor, the waiters could care less about you, ours never once asked how our food was or if we needed anything. All in all, with the lofty prices and poor service the halfway decent food doesn’t make this a spot I’ll return to.

Went here for some margaritas and dinner. I think that we had the poorest service ever in NYC. The bartender gave us the wrong specials, he had a lot of attitude and messed up the food. The drinks were watered down and the food was cold.

The margaritas were mediocre, expensive and small. The food wasn't horrible, but just ok. The value was poor. and.... They messed up on 2 items in the order. $4 of a $84 dollar check. They forgot to bring one and messed up the other. The waitress argued with me, then scoffed at me. The check arrived with the items still on the menu. I asked to see the manager. She refused, then stood over me waiting me to pay the bill. I refused and asked again to speak to the manager. When the manager arrived I explained the situation. Honestly $4 on a $84 check (jalopeno's and pico de gallo). He said I had to "pay for what I ordered." Now, yes I ordered both items, but both were mistakes. If I had ordered a steak and got chips and salsa they would, I guess, charge me for the steak?

If you are looking for a quiet dining experience dont go here. BUT if you are looking to have fun, chill out and have a good mexican meal w/great (yet a bit over-priced) drinks please try it. My husband and I always crave this place when we are downtown. My favorite is the seafood enchiladas. For those ppl who complained about this place --you need to learn how to relax and have a good time!
