Went here with my boyfriend, and we brought some wine with us so we could get buzzed for less $$. When we asked for a cooling agent for the white wine the waiter looked at us in amazement. We were the only people in the restaurant that day, and the service was still slow. The waiter kept looking at us while we ate and was pushing us to buy more than we had ordered. The food was very good, especially the vegetarian dishes. But the service was too awkward. I wouldnt go back.

I've been going here for years, a friend introduced it to me who is also a huge fan. Since then I've tried a number of other places to switch it up, but we always come back to Calcutta. I'd highly recommend this place for both sit-down and delivery. Music, Service, Food, it's all great IMO.

sometimes the service is a little slow but the food here is great and the music makes for a nice atmosphere. One of my favorite places in the village

My daughter has chosen this restaurant for a few years to gather the family to celebrate her birthday. Each year we look around for a change of venue, but Calcutta offers great food, good music and good service. This year the waiter noted that we were having a birthday celebration and brought out a special desert (not a cake, as he also noted that there were a few gluten-intolerant diners in the party) replete with a candle and accompanied by staff singing 'Happy Birthday!" It was a really pleasant experience for all of us.

I had lived on 6th street. Tried over 40 Indian restaurants all over New York and frequented most of Indian row when I was a poor student on a budget. Yet couldnt remember eating here & decided to try a Saturday night. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, and the ambiance and live music is a big draw, which is why it saddens me to say that the food was extremely lackluster and average. First off, I am a stickler for high quality ingredients and freshness. Its the first thing I notice. We ordered a Vegetable Korma and Bhindi Masala . Quite simply the worst Korma I have ever had. Both dishes were overcooked and the veggies were faded & old. The paratha bread was heavy and oily not flakey. The naan and Chicken Mahkni were decent and my friend loved his shrimp curry, which I found to be the best out of all the dishes that we ordered ,yet I wouldnt say spectacular. I guess it comes down to the dishes you order. If you like freshness and good korma/kurma. I would not recommend here. If youre more into the music than the food, then go for it.

The best of Indian row. Major bonus - no obnoxious solicitor on the street harassing you to get you come into the restaurant. Head and shoulders above most of the Indian food I have had in NYC.
