Ate the Red Velvet Cake because of all the hype it got. Although it is good, it is not the best as some might claim. The cake wasnt as moist as ive had from other places. The service is terrible and thats putting it mildly. They never ever have any cake left. Been here more than once.....early......and they've run out of cake! I heard its because they have one small van shipment deliver it daily, sometimes not at all. They dont bake on premises....thats why they run out! This is NOT the best.

If you really want a great piece of cake, this is the place to go. I first tried their red velvet and while it was moist and delicious, it wasn't the BEST red velvet I've ever had. After getting off the C train at Lafayette, I decided to stop by and see what else they may have to satisfy my sweet tooth. There were some teenagers inside eating a yellow-like piece of cake. When asked what it was, they replied...."PINEAPPLE! TRY IT! IT'S BETTER THAN THE RED VELVET!" And they were absolutely right. You won't be disappointed.

I agree with the poster just before me. They've gotten too much attention and it's all gone to their head. I've lived in the neighborhood for a little more than three years now, and its definately gone downhill. They remodeled their store recently, which made it much nicer inside, but they also raised their prices. If you ask me, $6 for a piece of cake is a bit much. It's not that good. They need to calm down and get back that neighborhood feeling. It's not even worth the trip down the block for me anymore.

Me and a few of my friends went to Cakeman Raven yesterday after hearing so much about his Red velvet cake.Needless to say I wasn't really impressed and I've had much better, from a little old lady in Newark baking out of her kitchen.I've tasted loads of red velvet and his doesn't make my top 5 list.I think it's more hype than anything. When we went he only had 3 kinds of cake available,my friend wanted pecan pie(which was on the menu)not only did they not have pecan pie but they no pies available! what kind of bakery has only 3 kinds of cake for sale on a saturday afternoon.I think because of his commercial success,he has taken his customers for granted. Get it together Cake Man!

My gosh...the desserts at the Cake Man Raven are orgasmic!! These cakes can cause one to go from an extreme health nut to a terrible glutton!! I went to this intimate shop on a Friday and there was a line, however, it did not take to much time to be served. They were out of most the cakes that I was hoping to purchase, however that may be in cause of the time I went (fifteen minutes before closing). I had the red velvet cake and the coconut cake. Truly EXQUISITE!! I recommend all to go here prior to or after going out to a restaurant to have a great after dinner dessert.

The red velvet cake here is to die for. You'll have to wait on a long line on weekends and weekday evenings but it's well worth it. The only downside is the 2 slice maximum purchase so you won't be able to get a lot of slices so go with more than one person. :-)

The red velvet cake is excellent i have not found better yet. the problem is that the cake is never ready so good luck in trying to catch them ready to serve you. alot of chit chat goes on and often they are slow but the red velvet cake is gooooood.
