What Happened to This Place?
I am not sure what happened to Caffe Pepe Rosso on Avenue C. For years this was my favorite restaurant. My girlfriend and I would go there 2-3 times a month to eat in or take out. The food was delicious, the service spectacular, loved the atmosphere and it was cheap. Our take out orders always came complete with great bread, olive oil and a small container of parmesan cheese. ....things have changed. Now, they do not answer the phone for take out orders. They can't hear it ringing because they have bands and DJ's playing. Rude, tattooed hipsters now serve customers - not the efficient friendly staff of before. And the food...my spaghetti with meat sauce arrived last night with no sauce- just a pile of geasy, overcooked ground beef dumped on a pile of pasta. There was no bread, olive oil or cheese either. I don't know if all of this can be explained by new ownership, but I won't be back to find out

What Happened to This Place?
Cafe Pepe Rosso used to be one of the best restaurants in this neighborhood - possibly even my favorite. For the past several years my girlfriend and I have been eating there or ordering delivery 2-3 times a month. The food was great, the prices were affordable, the wine list was a delight and the service was excellent. Things seemed to have changed though. They can't hear the phone ring when you call for delivery anymore because the have bands and DJ's playing. Rude, tattooed hipsters have replaced the old staff. Our take-out orders used to come complete with great bread, olive oil and parmesan cheese. Now they don't. My spaghetti with meat sauce tonight was a pile of greasy ground beef dumped on top of pasta - no sauce involved. What a shame. We won't be back.

A good find
Came here for dinner at the weekend as I was in NYC (from the UK) for a few days and staying nearby at Avenue C. It was not too busy and the staff were very welcome to a "singleton". The food was good and as far as I was concerned I would be happy to return if I was a local to the area.

This place was my favorite
Loved Pepe Rosso since they opened. Great addition to the neighborhood. I live a half a block away. We like to eat there...or we did until the recent 'change'. They now play loudish eurodisco and have a DJ setup and a subwooffer. Really too bad because they have a nice menu and a good workable little wine list. They had a great, friendly staff that seems to be gone now too. Probably eaten there weekly since they opened but I don't think I'll ever be back now that they want to be a 'club'

What L.E.S should feel like
Went there last night and tried out the Penne alla Vodka with Bacon coupled with a Peroni Beer. The food was good, and the service was great. Had a great conversation with Luis (manager) about F1 racing, global warming, and other interesting topics. Good food, great experience, excellent decor.

delivery is fast and delicious
I order delivery from here about once a week. It is fast, filling and the food is great. I even get their tiramisu for dessert. I recommend it if you are in the mood for inexpensive comfort food.

love it
I adore this place! The food is so good. Penne Vodka is sublime! And inexpensive! Heck, even I can afford it! But seriously, really really delicious. Only gripe is they run out of pannini bread a lot, so ive only got to have that once. Otherwise, definitely recommended.
