Good Place for Brunch, but a Little Slow

Went for brunch several times because of its location and affordable prices. They give free mimosas on Sundays, although they no longer advertise it. Food is decent, especially the egg dishes. Pancakes not that great if you prefer the fluffy "diner" type ones. Service was extremely slow even though the restaurant was not crowded at all. Was a little disappointed that they charged $4 bucks for a cup of regular coffee, with no refills. So while the prices are low, and we got a free mimosa, my husband's 2 cups of coffee cost $8.00. Hope they fix these quirks, but if not, we may not be returning.

    Nice surprise on Avenue B!

I had walked by Caffe Buon Gusto a few times since they renovated/ (re-opened?) and kept saying I needed to come back and check it out. The diners sipping wine at the outdoor sidewalk tables on quiet 5th street looked appealing. I finally ate here this past Sunday night for dinner and what a great experience!! It is BYO so we picked up a nice bottle of wine from Alphabet City Wines around the corner. We started with two salads (I had the octopus salad with arugula, pears, toasted almonds, in a shallot viniagrette...my fiance got the pear and gorgonzola salad- both delicious!! And beautifully prepared). We then split the sausage pappardelle pasta with roasted garlic and wild mushrooms in a truffle sauce-- out of this world! All their pasta and bread is made fresh on the premises and you can definitely tell. When we said we wanted to split the pasta they actually brought it out on two separate plates (which restaurants hardly ever do, but it is such a nice thing when they do it!). The owner was there while we ate, enjoying a glass of wine at one of the tables. He very friendly and kept checking in to make sure everything was to our satisfaction- which it definitely was! He even sent over a complimentary tiramisu :) Overall, great service, nice ambience, and VERY reasonable prices! I will definitely return!
