We visited Cafeteria last week. Our food was delish...try the smoked Gouda and bacon macaroni and cheese. Talk about comfort food! My companion had the turkey burger which she loved. The nightly special was meatloaf which a lot of people ordered and looked and smelled wonderful. Portions are huge so think about sharing. Save room for the fried Oreos. The carafe of Cosmos are yummy as well. Ask for Sara as your waitress. She is delightful and could not have provided better or more attentive service.

I do not recommend Cafeteria to anyone that likes good food. If it's a nice day outside, and you like to eat decent food, have a glass of good wine, and sit outside Cafeteria is the place for you. Otherwise, avoid at all costs. I have been to this restaurant on a number of occasions, two times for lunch (used to be by the office) and once for dinner with my boyfriend. The lunch menu is decent - simple food, good flavors. The dinner menu is bad. Traditionally simple food that someone has attempted to add an extra 'kick' to - and it fails. The flavors were all spot on, but the preparation fell short. My food was overcooked, his food was soggy. And $13 for a plate of biscuits and gravy is absurd - unless there are truffles in that gravy, a plate of b&g should never go for more than $4. I don't mind spending money on good food, but it's simply obnoxious to spend a decent amount of money on not-so-decent food - especially in New York where there are amazing restaurants everywhere.

I went here with a few friends for dinner on a Friday night. The food pretty good and the music was awesome! We were apprehensive to go to a restaurant named "Cafeteria" but we were pleasantly surprised. The wait staff was average - not overly attentive but definitely not slow or rude. Overall, I would recommend Cafeteria.

In a nut shell, a few friends and I (total 5) went to this place recently after hanging out at a bar. It was about 11:00 at night. The place was still busy, but still no excuse for the poor service we were about to get. After being seated, it took about 20 minutes for an actual waiter to come an ask us if we would like drinks/order. After ordering, it took about 1 hour plus (yes!! no exaggerating here!) for our food to arrive. And that was only after we complained to the waiter & manager about how long we've been waiting. We actually saw people leave who got there at the same time as we did (i noticed since couple were actually carrying a set of golf clubs, and waited outside to be seated the same time as we did). To their credit, after expressing our disappointment in service, they did put one of our entrees "on the house", but I would have preferred better service and does not make up for their poor service. The funny thing is, if we hadn't said anything, no one would have noticed or said anything to us, and who knows how long we would've actually waited. When we finally got our food, it was actually pretty descent, but a bit pricey for what it really was. Either that or we were too hungry to tell the difference. Unless you have a lot of time to spare, are not really hungry, and don't care about service, I don't think it's worth it to try this place. There are plenty of better places in the city/neighborhood. And it appears it's not an isolated incident, just read the other reviews.

Cafeteria used to be my favorite restaurant in the city. I haven't been in about six months. I was really disappointed last night when I ordered my favorites. The portion sizes have shrunk considerably, (The dishes have shrunk by about 1/3) and the prices have gone up by about a dollar (or two). One of these elements might have been expected. Both is simply unconscionable. I shouldn't have had to leave hungry.

The fact that it is 24 hours is clutch! And its not just a 24 hour diner kind of spot with a few boarder jumper females with mustaches. Nor is it a greasy spoon kind of a joint, like your typical 24 hour spot...its GOOD FOOD with fancy-but-not-too-fancy presentation and a modern atmosphere. The Food was on point, I didn't try anything I didn't like, the fries, mac and cheese, the meatloaf (i recommend!) had some kind of sweet sauce that was delicious! We had a great time and I will for sure be finding my way back there on those nights that I miss my late night reservation at a different spot whose kitchen closes at 11:00 >: 0 (like tonight). Only heads up: if ur a homophobe...Cafeteria is not the spot for you.

I love the modern atmosphere of the place, but it's so upbeat and full of energy at 5AM that I wish they'd put calming music. The music is always too loud like at a nightclub where you have to scream over your food to talk to whoever you're dining with. Other than that, I have no complaints. The food is fantastic. I love the Fontina and Cheddar Mac n' Cheese and the sliders are wonderful. Go ahead and do the Mac n' Cheese Sampler if you want, but to be honest, at the price of all of them and the tastes, the Cheddar and Fontina is the Cheapest at 9 bucks and is the only one really worth having anyway. All the sandwiches are great too. The truffle fries though were almost tart and a tiny bit soggy, go for the Yuca Fries instead. The velvet cake is HUGE, and after a generous portion of entrees and appetizers, opt to share your dessert. All in all, I had a wonderful experience and will definitely come back.
