service was slow, drinks were very expensive, but most appalling was the attitude of the guy at the front desk who rudly asked my daughter "where did the drink come from?" We enjoyed a glass of wine outside before entering the restaurant for our meal. There was no "hello, welcome to Cafeteria". Too bad because I have no desire to go back. "No one goes there anymore, the place is too crowded." Staff should check the undesirable attitude at the door.

I work for a high end 4 stars meatpaking restaurant.. live in chelsea.. Stopped in Cafeteria on a Sunday night since we were Hungry and there was no other open place around.. First, there's a rude bouncer (yup, even tho it's only a restaurant!) who thought he was working at a night club.. wouldn't let us in because the 4th person joining us later wasn't there.. We Decided to take a table for 3 .. lol.. The host was a lot nicer and he was the one who let us in, not the bouncer.. We got in, waited at the bar while they were cleaning our table, willing to start ordering drinks but guess what? Bartender ignored us.. After 10 minutes of being at the bar they assigned us a table.. We sat, waitress came, very polite greeted us, took our drinks order and disappeared for 20 minutes when we actually were STARVING!.. She came back and practically every item on the menu we wanted she say they didnt have it available anymore because it was 'late night' already (12.30am) (Why would you stay open 24 hours then?!) We ended up ordering typical items (ie. cheese burger, steak salad, etc)> Finally drinks came so we decided to ask for the second round right away since we noticed how slow their service was..Food was ok, truly diner-like food.. Drinks took forever to come again. It's obvious that wait staff gets intimidated when they see nice good looking educated people, and just try to ignore you thinking you are a total snub when all you want is eat and drink and tip them for their good service! Our waitress left and another guy took over her shift, after seeing our tab he was quicker and very polite and would offer drinks and bring them right away.. Anyway, my friend (the 4th guy) showed up and the bouncer didn't let him in even though our table had an extra seat and at the end we were only drinking! We decided to leave, and oh, guess what?! Tip Is included in your check! Anyway, I wouldn't recommend this place at all! Avoid it at all costs.

I have come here for years for the turkeyburgers. Recently they seem to get greasier, perhaps reflrcting a new oil? Won't be back soon.

We are neighbors and Cafeteria regulars until recently when the quality of the food plummeted and the kitchen oil is now so poor. The coffee and bread got really bad and cutting corners and raising prices is apparent. There are much better and healthier choices in Chelsea!

This is my kind of place. Small enough that I can scope out the whole room, but open enough that it feels hip & clean, and a place that embraces the art of deep fried dessert! Get the Veggie Burger so you don't feel as guilty about red velvet cake (I swear 1 slice can feed 4) & deep fried oreos! My girls and I love the champagne cocktails (blood orange mimosa is awesome). I've always called same day to make a reservation which seems to work out. Great vibe but music might be too loud to bring parents. Overall, loves it

So rude, so snobby, not sure if the chef went out to lunch somewhere else (a wise decision) but our food was mediocre at best.

The Bloody Mary here is basically the best I've had. I hate a thin Bloody Mary or one that uses cheap vodka. Here they have a flambe show and use jalapeno infused vodka - I'm impressed. I happen to think most of their cocktails are killer... word from the wise: you know there is a wait, come early and indulge with a liquid appetizer
