    Not recommended

Food is basic diner fare - nothing exceptional... but the service is poor. Took ages to get our order taken because there is no system - all the waiters don't seem to be working a section - they just pick up tables at random. Once we eventually ordered, I got my eggs benedict to find that only one egg contained a yolk. I alerted the waitress and asked her to bring another egg benedict while I ate the other with my friend. After waiting 20 mins, and we had both finished our breakfast, they brought me an egg - in a bowl - swimming in water... they expected me to reassemble the egg benedict with my cold muffin and cold piece of bacon. When we complained the waiter stared at us, said, "take it off the bill" and walked off. They didn't take it off the bill. When we complained to the maitre'd we were greeted with a blank stare.

    Inflexible service

Went there last nite at 3am with a party of five. Was seated near the door with a draft. The people in our party were all cold, especially the girls. Seeing that there were plenty of other tables furthner into the restaurant that were still open, we asked to be moved. We were told they didn't move tables together (we're talking 6 inches). When we said we'd be willing to sit at separate tables, she asked if we had already ordered. Seeing that we had, we wouldn't be able to move. We all ate w/ our jackets on. I've been to plenty of nicer restaurants that have been flexible enough to move tables. This one obviously isn't.

    I love it!

I have been there a lot, and the food continues to always be a pleasure. I have found the staff to be very pleasant and accomodating! This restaurant is quickly turning into one of my favorite spots in the city. Whether you are there from lunch to 3 a.m. it is always popping! I love it! By the way, you must try the Mixed Berry mojito and coconut Martini!

    Hip and Chill

I've been to the Cafeteria a numerous amount of times and I have yet to complain. The staff if very friendly and attentative. I bring clients there for lunch because the atmosphere is so chill and gives insight to the type of person I am. Very hip spot and I'll continue to promote it. Atmosphere is everything, but takes off when the food and drink is just as good.

Hotties and Comfort Food, oh my!

I've been to Cafeteria at least 5 times and never been disappointed. The comfort-food cuisine is yummm-my and the waitstaff cute-as-can-be. This is a see-and-be-seen Chelsea institution, be it for brunch or a late-nite snack after cocktailing. Order the mac'n'cheese and you'll forget all about your diet! Regarding the complaints below about attitude, I didn't notice a thing. Sure, the staff knows they are hot, but then again, don't you too?

    Service without a smile

I recently visited New York from Scotland with my wife and was recommended to visit Cafeteria for some top nosh. I had high hopes for this restaurant and the food did not disappoint, but the attitude of the staff was a bit too much. I expected a bit of New York style attitude when in NYC but after arriving only 5 minutes late for our table (through typical NY traffic problems) we were made to feel like criminals!! We stood at the bar for half an hour like naughty school boys before our ?drama queen? of a waiter finally came for us. We then had to squeeze into our tiny table, which was so close to our fellow dinners that I felt I was joining them for a meal. Food was excellent but too rushed. The calamari salad appetizer was particularly good, but definitely not one for all you budding romantics out there, as it was a full on garlic overload. Another tip would be not to drink too many ?Sam Adams? with your meal, as there is only one restroom, which was constantly busy (not a comfortable experience!!). Overall a 3 out of 5 for me - There is better out there (without the drama queens serving up the attitude as well as the food).

    Cafeteria attitude

It is a good place for good food. But boy, they have an attitude there. The host is almost funny in his arrogance. It was not worth the 30 minutes wait for brunch on a saturday. Plenty of other choices in my book. Overrated.
