Honestly, one of the best places I have ever eaten in new york and I am FROM here! We got the papas reyenas, house salad, and pollo francese. BOMB.

Good But....
Nice atmosphere and decent food, but it was a bit cramped. Server kept bumping my chair everytime she passed by. What I found weird was, I was told that they accepted cash only because thier cc machine was down, yet did not have an atm on site. I had to leave the restaurant and wait on line at some corner grocery store so that I can get cash out of an atm.

Like A cuban Mother
Cafecito is by far the best Cuban food I have ever had. The Atmosphere was great. Dim Lighting makes for a romantic experience. The Food blew my mind. I had the skirt steak and it was out of this world good. Also Plantains and the spanish rice and beans made for a great side dish. I also loved the drinks. The bartender had to serve like hundreds of people and he did it with style. He also made me the best drinks I had in NYC. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone and I mean anyone.

More Sub-Par Cuban...
Being from Miami, and of cuban decent I can tell you that this is NOT Cuban food. It has a cute name, cute decor, and cute graffiti outside of it, but cafecito is NOT Cuban food. The bistec empanizado I ordered was hardly marinated for than 30seconds and was fried in oil that wasn't heated enough. The black beans were absolutely goya and from a can. The soup I ordered was decent, but how badly can you mess up chicken soup? I wouldn't recommend it to anyone; better food can be had in alphabet city.

Pros and Cons
The place is very themed, cozy, and small, tables kinda wobbly. Tight seating arrangements. Service is slow - the few (3) times I've been there, including a time (mid day-lunch) where it was our party and another patron we waited far too long for just appetizers. Expect small servings (well, especially in comparison to other latino spots in the vicinity) but very filling. Prices a little steep for the portions, but All in all - the food tastes fresh and authentic... I'd go again.

There's better options in the area.
Made a last min reservation for 5 and we all ordered different dishes so we could get a good taste for the place. The appitizer was a little of everything but nothing was that good. The batter was over cooked and dry. I ordered a salad with shrimp to keep it simple. Shrimp was not very good, the best part of the salad was the alvocado...i can make a better salad at home. My mom ordered the ropa vieja, that was by far the best of all the dishes. If you go order that and stay away from anything else.

above average cuban...
thought i'd never get a cuban sandwich as good as Cafe Habana (soho) but this is damn close. Lunch is the best deal (dinner charges $3+ for same dish and portions). only problem is the papa rellena's are tiny and mine was mostly a huge air bubble with barely any meat/potato inside. Overall, this is a great place, cute atmosphere and nice service. definitely recommend this restaurant!
