Very good indian food

i cant believe this is Indian
i just ordered from here for lunch today after being told by my colleague its good indian food. I was very dissapointed. The mango Lassi had an aftertaste and was too sweet. The chicken vindaloo was too spicey and cooked in way too much garam masala that it took away from the flavor of the chicken curry itself. I myself is indian and I will never order from here again

Service issues
I recently had dinner at this establishment and have decided to only do take-out. My girlfriend and I ordered the duck which is amazing, unfortunately the meal was brought to us prior to my meal, leaving a 15minute gap inbetween. Not to mention they served us the wrong drinks. I've been here plenty of times for the duck, but its not worth it if the service is going to be this mediocre everytime.

The reviewer who said this place was pretentious was absolutely right. Over priced, small servings and we were rushed out. go to 6th St or Lexington.

outstanding food and genuine choice
We went to cafe spice after a long day of meetings in nyc. The food we found was exceedingly authentic, ie. if you tasted food in good hotels in India,(we lived there 3yrs). Compared to other restaurents in nyc, it's an absolute bargain! Being from texas we did'nt find it overly spicy. Service was nice. It's a bistro. They are decent enough to cater to all who are waiting outside in the que. Which is only fair if there is a rush and people are waiting. We give it a thumbs up!

Nice atmosphere but pretentious!
The atmosphere was nice and unlike some other raters the service I received was great! Maybe because my brother came with us and he frequents there. The daal was not good though and the portions were small and OVERPRICED for what you get. I can understand why people would think it's sloppy. It's a far stretch from GOOD real Indian food-it's more of a "Indian food for dummies" kind of place.

Poor Service
Two out of three times I have been here I have had very poor service. The first time my party was ignored (after we were seated) for twenty minutes so we got up and left. Tonight we ate dinner and had drinks (which were served after a table had been served that had arrived after us). When we were finished eating, the hostess and buser took everything away, including water glasses we were drinking from and forced us out of the table because of "a line." It was the most improfessional thing that I have ever experienced in a resturant. I enjoy the food but will not go back there because of how my party was treated. Paying customers should never be treated that way.
