    Long wait, bland food

I wanted to like this place since it's so close to my house, but the delivery took close to an hour, two dishes and a thai tea came to 30 bucks (35 w/ tip) and the Veggie Pad thai was so bland and dry, I just tossed it. The guy on the phone was nice, though.

    bland tasting pad see yu

was craving pad see yu tonight.. so i decided to walk over to Cafe Sage. Unfortunately the noodles were really and the beef was so dry and chewy.. and on top of that they used regular broccoli and not chinese broccoli. Big upset =T

    So glad we ordered

Best Thai in FD, no doubt. Can't wait to order again. Try the "In honor of the king".

    Great flavors

Unlike the reviewer before me I had a quite pleasant experience. The woman on the phone was accommodating and helpful with a sense of humor. We ordered quite a few things since we like to try different foods to really learn about the restaurant for the future reference. My favorite was definitely the Soup: Tom Kha Koong Shrimp in coconut milk with mushroom and Thai herbs. I think I will be thinking about this soup now and will be ordering it tomorrow! Also, Steamed Thai Crepes were excellent! The Koong Ka Bog and Pla Muk Yang were not bad but not the best I've ever had. Ped Panang which is a duck sauteed with onions, peppers, thai spices and some other things is very good in a coconut milk and curry sauce. We also ordered frog legs however I wasn't crazy about the sauce that we ordered: the basil and chili. I think I would probably prefer the onion and curry or garlic and pepper but I guess I just have to try it. Overall, very good experience, especially for take out! Will definitely order from you soon! Thank you!

    not a happy customer...

Cafe Sage is a very frustrating experience. i ordered delivery today and it has taken over an hour! and i live across the street. i called to check on my order 3 times and then i was told it was canceled! i am so frustrated and only ordered from there as i thought it would be quick! the food is not great btw and not going there or ordering again. Bennie's thai around the corner is much better...food, staff, and quick delivery.

    Lunch Delivery is a Joke

If they are at all busy, expect cold food delivered in over an hour. One would think they would hire more delivery people if demand warrants it. Only order before 12:00pm, or after 1:00pm for lunch.

Excellent Find in the Financial District

It's somewhat difficult to find a decent restaurant in the Financial District that is both a good meal and a good price. Cafe Sage is both. I went in the early evening. Cafe Sage was empty. My guest and I ordered soup, the Tom Ka Koong. It wasn't quite hot enough, but it was delicious with fresh lemongrass and basil. The shrimps (2) were large. An appetizer of fried mini pork & leek dumplings was next. Not greasy, a decent size portion, and quite tasty with a side of hot chili sauce. For entrees, we chose the kai kra prow & mudsa mun nuur. Both came hot and plentiful. The vegetables on the kra prow were fresh and delicious. The mun nuur was perfectly balanced between the curry and coconut milk. However, it could have had a few more potato chunks (only 2 in the dish, but plenty of beef!) One minor drawback is that rice is not included with your entree. A $1.00 charge for rice will be added to your bill, and the portion of rice is not enough to go with the large entrees. The service was excellent. The water glasses were never more than half empty. But then again, we were the only patrons in the restaurant for most of our meal. The atmosphere is OK, nothing special, but I still would rather have excellent food to having a prettier restaurant. All in all, Cafe Sage is an excellent choice for a fine meal. I can't speak for their express lunches, but, express lunches are just that, pre-made dishes that are there to speed you through the restaurant without wasting your entire lunch break. The menu is always available as an alternative and from what I ate during my visit, I was impressed. Can't wait to go back!
