    nothing special except atmosphere....

We were there with our grown up children. The Weisswurst with patatoe salad. The Weisswurst was not hot but lukewarm and the saldad microscopic. The desserts just have the name of it... chocalate no taste, caramel..no taste..Good coffee and peppermint tea ! Highlight.. Günther Jauch (german television star) and his family . They had to wait like everybody else. Place is nice for coffee or tea. Won't go a second time.

    Manager disappointed

I complained that my cake was a bit dry and the waiter must have told the manager to come over. He came over with a fork and ate a piece of the cake right off my plate! The meal up to that point had been fine and the waiters were very nice, but that just totally turned me off to the place. I don't know if this is how it's done in Austria but I was totally grossed out.

    Nasty manager

Atmosphere was pleasant, food was good (though expensive) and our waiter was very helpful. Unfortunately, our meal was interrupted by the cafe manager loudly berating one of the servers. This struck me as extremely tasteless and certainly not in keeping with the overall character of the restaurant. I also felt bad for the poor waiters who have to work there, because judging by the high quality of service we received, they certainly don't deserve that kind of treatment.

    Even better than in Vienna

You maybe know, when you enter a real Viennese cafe back home in Austria, the "Kaffeehausober" or "Kellner" often is not sooo friendly... But here at Cafe Sabarsky at the wonderful Neue Galerie service is excellent. I also liked the interieurs of the cafe - only the air condition is (typical american) a little bit too freezy. Go for it and enjoy the Sachertorte.

    not for desserts

All the desserts look like your typical overloaded chocolate-somethingelse cake, but somebody had recommended the place, so I had to give it a chance. I got the chocolate rum cake and it´s the worst desert I´ve had -and for that kind of money. I had to remove the flavorless chocolate icing to finally detect a very slight hint of rum in an extremely dense and dry dough of which I left about a half -plus the humongous amount of whipped cream accompanying it. Not worth the money.

    Been There...Done That

Apfelstrudel: Dough is too thick, apples are too hard and "who did the strudel in" with that cream/sauce? Wurstsalad: Yellow and red peppers may look pretty, but no self respecting native would attempt to eat that! Wurstsalad should be no more than a generous helping of thick sliced bologna, red onions, wine vinegar and extra virgin olive oil. The bread and Flaedle/Nockerl soup was great. After we did have a very pleasant visit in your main dining room, we ventured downstairs and saw a melange of the most delicious desserts. Better luck next time. We'll definitely be back for another visit.

    Wonderful service

Dropped in for a late lunch after visiting the MET. The cafe was busy but we were seated immediately. The ambience was typical of Austrian coffe houses and had live piano music. Our server Pedro was very efficient and friendly. The food was good - we had the smoked trout crepes and vienna sausage in goulash sauce. For dessert we had the Mozart cake and the Rhubarb cake, both equally delicious. Definitely a must visit if on museum mile.
