PETISCO has really decent food and reasonably friendly service. But most importantly it is a much needed relief from some of the über trendy haunts that keep popping up all over this part of the LES. There is no doubt something slightly off about Petisco: from the decor (a kind of gauche attempt at cozy w/out conviction), to the charmingly aloof service (a running joke among friends is that the wait staff consists of aliens in human bodies, Mars Attacks style), and the menu options, which are a delicious yet slightly schizo mix of generic American diner fare meets Tel Aviv café food. The overall feel is more liberal arts college town coffee shop than downtown cool eatery...which is exactly what makes it positively stand out in this part of town. Oh, and it's also surprisingly family friendly, with a high percentage of strollers (esp. on weekends) and the occasional zimmer frame to boot. I, for one, am GRATEFUL Petisco exists!

I used to go eat at this restaurant but I no longer go because when you go there you get a bad headache because the music is too loud and the waitresses are nice but they do not have experience how to deal with customers. Also when you call and order for delivery they take a long time to answer phone and when they answer phone the music is so loud that they can't hear what you want to order and you have to repeat yourself. Rumors are that this restaurant since they change management is not the same. If that is the case new management should evaluate what they doing so they can stay in business!!!

When this restaurant first opened, it was a delight to have in the neighborhood. But recently there has been a change of ownership (not disclosed) and there has been a noticeable decline in atmosphere, food quality and price to plate value. And, still no change in the CASH ONLY policy.

Our family went there for a 50th birthday party( approx. 22 people )and everyone had the best time! Food was superior and the service outstanding. Some people were not familar with some dishes but they loved them. They served small tasting plates with the most delicious and savory ingredients. By far the best hummus in the world! A trip to the lower east side is certainly worth it. Their fresh baked bread is mouthwatering! Some relatives asked if they would cook for them every and deliver! Petisco is a GOOD THING!

We order delivery from Petisco and visit the cafe often. Depending on when we wake up sometimes my room mates and I order 3 times at different intervals! The man who answers the phone is just lovely even during their busy brunch he is calm and friendly. I've been in the hospitality industry for many years and I cannot rave more about how nice the staff here is. Happy owners make for happy workers. The food is always fresh and yummy. Thanks Petisco.

This place is not what it used to be. When they first opened, the food was amazing, the food was prepared with care, the portions were decent, and they made you feel welcome. Now they are willing to cheat in order to get as much money out of you. I was charged $11 for a mediocre (house) glass of cabernet last night, and was told the wine is not on the menu. This was not $11 glass or the type of service, and unfortunately this policy is very penny wise and dollar stupid. I live in the neighborhood and used to recommend this place to everyone. Now I will never go again, and will make sure to spread the word... unfortunate!!
