    Disappointing service

I have been there twice. Both times I was not happy with the service. The first time they brought us wrong order, which happened twice. The second time I been there we had to wait for 20 minutes and when they called us to get the table, we realized another customer is already sitting there without asking for table and instead they asked us to wait longer for the next available table. Althought the service was not satisfactory, the atmosphere is nice and the food is awesome and huge.

    Alas, I am torn!

I have a very terrible problem: Cafe Lalo's desserts are some of the best I've ever tasted; the first time around I sampled their chocolate walnut cake with raspberry sauces and french vanilla ice cream, brownie cheesecake...and the second time around, their coconut macadamia tart. Both instances I wanted to die with pleasure, and felt that my purchases were worth every penny, but alas, the service! The first time I went I was a little irritated but not turned off: the distracted waitress took a bit too long to return to earth and even take our orders, despite her being very nice. Ahhhh but the second time: my friends and I decided to spend the hours after our prom gorging ourselves on rich desserts. Initially, we were going to take them home with us, as we weren't sure how much time we had, so we asked that they'd be ready upon arrival. However, as the day wore on, I realized that we would have enough time, and when I called, was told it would be perfectly fine if we wished to stay. Well, we asked for forks, and they were tossed at us grudgingly. When we asked for water, nothing was done. We asked again, and two glasses were brought. When we politely said that we wanted for the whole table, the waitress gave an awful look and said that we weren't supposed to stay, but fulfilled her duties anyway. Another one stated that "She'd like to go home and not be bothered" when people were still coming in to be served!" The experience was extremely uncomfortable as my entire party and I felt daggers being stabbed into our backs, and upon leaving, we were followed by a borderline-nasty "Just so you know, we're never doing this again". I don't know-did we do something wrong? Ick...I think I'll just be taking out next time :(

    Love It!

Cafe Lalo is probably one of my favorite late night hot spots in New York City!! The atomesphere is fun, the restuarant is very quant and unique. Desserts are amazing, cheesecake especially!! It is a must see and they are open late until I think two or three or even four in the morning! check it out.

    Too Overrated Indeed

Cafe Lalo used to be a reliable source for impecable desserts in the late 1980's- 1990's. However, post "You've Got Mail," this brightly-lit, quick-to-get-you-out cafe has been quite a dissappointment lately. The desserts, although visually appetizing were of poor quality, resulting in upset stomachs for both myself and the company I was with. The chocolate cheesecake was particularly warm, while the chocolate- cappuccino cake had an odd consistency, lacking any trace of cappuccino.

    Must try!

This place is my favourite cafe, and for a good reason too. The food is absolutely incredible, and the atmosphere is warm and cosy. Don't pay attention to the bad reviews, you just have to try it yourself! Definetly recommend it to everyone.

    Over-Rated

2nd time to Lala land. Thought we would give it a second chance. The wait staff was not at all attentive to any of our concerns or needs. Besides that, the food quality tonight was below par. When serving pie, it would be nice to have it heated, or at least warmed to room temperature. It also would have been nice to know that the plum tart was actually made with an almond base. Not that I have anything against almonds, but I was not really in the mood for almonds tonight. Bottom line...decent desserts, poor service and too cramped even for NYC eateries.

    Too brightly lit!

This place could use a little dimming of the lights. It's really overly crowded with mostly a college crowd..and overall really overrated.
