    Bright Lights Big Disappointment

This may be the poorest service - and the most marginally overpriced food - in Manhattan. It looks nice as you walk in but it is crowded, loud and the young kids that wait there really dont care if you have a nice experience or not. They get to you if they want and they hover around the middle of the room further making it tough to get by or get their attention. So what is some movie was made there, for my money, there are plenty of other more authetic places to get nice desert.

good for a late night dessert but expact

Lalo's is great for a late night dessert when all else is closed. The service is extremely poor and it is overpriced but the coffee drinks are great.

    Not recommended

I went here after dinner a few weeks ago because we were looking for a nice quiet place for coffee and dessert. Certainly did not find it here. While the cheesecake was fine, the music, blaring as loud as possible, with the brightest spotlights (real nice after a bottle of wine) shining down, made for an unpleasant experience. That's just me. Maybe some people who need a place to make believe they're having fun, would enjoy it. Me? Not so much.

Great desert, but could be better priced

Cafe Lalo makes fantastic deserts, there is simply no two ways about it. I agree with most of the other posters that it can get pretty cramped in there though (it's a small space). I also agree that the service is poor, but I would like to clarify that point. I dont think it's the servers fault, I just think that there are so few of them relative to the many guests cramped into that place that they are often harried. To some this may be a moot point since the end result is you're still getting poor service, but I think it's important to point out that the servers arent rude, it's just that they're frazzled and overwhelmed. The prices here could be better, however, as I think it's a little over-the-top expensive.

    Good

The place is charming, the selection is amazing, but it was very tight seating, which for me diminshes the experience. My service was very good, so I guess it is the luck of the draw. A bit overpriced, but not horrible.

    A Mixed Bag

Cafe Lalo is cute and has a nice menu (good sandwiches on excellent bread, tasty salads and soup — and fabulous desserts) BUT the service is not good and the place is noisy when it's crowded. The service is annoyingly slow and unprofessional. Since Lalo isn't cheap (I recently spent $32 there for two sandwiches, one lemonade and a slice of cheesecake), the drawbacks are hard to overlook.
