Good meal
I went with my son who lives in NYC (I'm an out-of-towner). It's becoming one of his favorite restaurants and i see why. Delicious food, even a couple dishes for vegetarians. The owner himself was maitre d and a very charming gentleman. Recommend highly.

Wunderbar
I wish I could thing of something original to say -- but it has all been said -- this is a wonderful restaurant with great food and particularly sweet service. It's tiny -- you must go early. One of the best dining experiences I have ever had.

Austrian Gem
Honestly, I wanted to write a bad review just so that I could continue going to this amazing little place and not face large crowds but I just can't do that. This place is a true gem. Great atmosphere, delicious fare and the warmest and most gracious service I've received in a NYC restaurant in a while. Loved the Gosser beer and the liverwurst appetizer and you can't go wrong with their buttery spaetzl. Their sausages, side dishes and meatballs are soooo good. Unfortunately, we had no room for dessert, a return trip is in order. We got there early and were able to get a table right away but but the time we were leaving the place was full with a line at the bar.

Spaetzle
I went to Cafe Katja last night with my husband. What an incredible experience. The staff couldn't have been warmer and nicer. Even with a full restaurant they make you feel invited and taken cared of. The food was DELISH! The sausage with quark dumplings was excellent, as were my husbands meatballs and the various sides we got. The spaetzle was dreamy! The wine list is also fantastic with great selection by the glass which allowed us to taste several different ones. Can't wait to come back and try the goulash! Definitely come early.

Absolutely wonderful
That was outstanding experience. The food was simple comfort food German/ Austrian fare, BUT the quality of it was absolutely excellent. It was so delicious I had dreams about it and plan another trip to New York already. The ambience is simple but cozy. The only thing I wish would be different is the sound level of the music. It was a bit too loud to our ears. The service was the nicest, friendliest and most attentive and professional we experienced ever. You feel like a guest in your friend’s house. Thank you Katja for the lovely dinner experience. We’ll be back every time we are in New York.

Amazing
The food here is amazing. I may not be an expert on the genre, but Cafe Katja served easily the best meal of my life in the German/Austrian vein, at extremely reasonable prices. It's very cramped and loud, but it is unquestionably one of my new favorites.

A Jewel
If you're nostalgic for Austrian / Southern German food, this place will take you to cloud nine. The menu is authentic, the food is delicious. Almost best of all is the service - the folks here are attentive, warm, personal and "real". If I lived just a little closer I'd come here every week.
