I tried this cafe a few weeks ago to get a coffee to go, to be honest its not that friendly its not really a place to chat just get the coffee and pay the $4.00 they charge for most of the drinks they offer. I gave this place a chance because its down the street from my cousins house come to visit him once in a while so we tried the place. This cafe is good if you live close by and don't want to walk far.

I've been to many of the great coffee shops in NYC but still have a love of Cafe Grumpy. Their espresso is still among one of the best I've ever had. They're always friendly, but still take brewing the coffee seriously. At this location I think I may have had coffee a BIT on the over-extracted side once, and that was a time right before closing.

First of all, the best americano this side of the bridge - maybe even in nyc. Second, I don't find them that grumpy. I don't go for the chit chat, if I want that there's a cute cafe called Naidre's across the street (I sometimes get my coffee at Grumpy then walk across the street for a muffin!) They don't know my kids name, and I'm ok with that. It's sort of my grown up go to place for coffee. But, they are nice and get my coffee quickly and they aren't rude. So, great coffee, no kids, and a newspaper to peruse. It's my non-mommy coffee shop and I love it.

stopped by the park slope location a few weeks ago for a coffee. each cup of coffee is ground and brewed to order, making for a great cup of coffee. the girl behind the counter wasn't actually grumpy, but more indifferent and not very friendly. had the same experience at the "grumpy" location in manhattan. coincidence? hard to say, but please go there for the coffee, pricey at $2.75 for a large brewed cup, but worth it, for sure.
