Great food baaaaad service
I have been eating at this restaurant for many years. Today I had the worst service possible and the waiter that took care of us was appaling. The wait staff was good but the waiter that served our table should be doing the dishes not taking orders or serving the check. The breakdown of 12 people was very unclear. We were offered a free chocolate cake for dessert for a birthday party. Nice on their part but they did not tell us until after we received the check that the ala cartes had to pay for the slice of cake. We did not get chocolate we got strawberry shortcake. Plus the ala cartes had to pay for their slices. If this had been explained to us from the beginning we would not have ordered a cake we did not want, and paid the price for a free cake. The food was great though. For all of us and I highly recommend this restaurant for its food. I look forward to eating here once a year as a special occasion for my birthday. I probably always will. Watch out for the service though. The owners are nice people as I have talked with them on many an occasion but they have to start to retrain their staff to service their clients better. Hopefully next year will be better.

Good neighborhood place - trying to get by
I have never had a bad meal here. Is it a place I would go for a girl's night out? No. Do I go there with a small group when I want to catch up, or with my BF when I want a quiet night? Yes. Give it a try - always good, abundant food, and one of the only remaining places in the neighborhood due to the construction. The family that owns it is nice and friendly and deserves a chance!

An Excellent Restaurant
From the outside the restaurant looks as if it is a small bar. Once inside you can find that there is plenty of European (perhaps a Parisian cafe) style seating and space, beautifully laid out. This restaurant is truly a hidden charm. For the $19 prix fix weekday lunch menu you get a homemade breadbasket (with not only bread but muffins and croissants too) a full appetizer (usually the size of a small meal its self), a large entree (try the steak), a full desert, fresh cookies and coffee or tea. The atmosphere is relaxed and wait-staff is very attentive and rather upbeat considering that the cliental is on the older end. As a college student I wish I could afford to go here more often (although dollar- for dollar it is an excellent value) and I hope that younger cliental start coming to keep this place going. Give it a try! I would recommend that the restaurant offer a mini prix fix without all the goodies perhaps for take out/delivery to start to attract more customers.

Must disagree with "anonymous" March 2011
I don't normally respond to other people's messages, but the reviewer in March was so insulting that I felt compelled to make an exception. I guess that he/she never intends to get old. I've eaten at Cafe Greco many times over the last several years on visits to NYC. It's a great neighborhood restaurant with excellent food and service. Yes, there are many senior citizens who frequent the restaurant, but I consider that an endorsment since these people are locals and there are many restaurants from which they can choose. The menu includes a variety of selections and the dishes continue to be tastefully prepared. I eat out frequently in both NY and NJ (local restaurants as well as at some "big names") and Cafe Greco has the best herb-broiled chicken of any restaurant in the NY/NJ area, bar none; their Greek salad remains a classic.

I don't agree with the other reviews
Perhaps things have changed, I was at this restaurant about 6 months ago. It was one of those very rare NY unpleasant meals. Primarily because the atmosphere resembles a senior center. There were literally walkers and oxygen tanks around. Secondly because the food was also what might be served on a Saturday night at an old aged home. Steamed mushy vegetables with bland everything. Avoid if you are under 75.
