The food is quite enjoyable and the atmosphere is fine, but the service was subpar and tarnished the meal.

I love Cafe Gitane. My food was delicious and the service was perfect.

Any time I want a guaranteed perfect meal, I go to Gitane... no matter how far I have to trek for the cous cous with hummus (I get it with both sausage and chicken) I leave happy and satisfied. Everything is good here. Even the tap water tastes different. Go for the cous cous, try the mint iced tea or a hot chocolate. Every time someone visits from out of town, I take them here and they are amazed. There is usually a wait and no 'list' to put your name on, but somehow they remember who got there first. The staff is not pretentious and really friendly. Great place. There is nothing wrong here. Except you wish you had a couple of bellies to eat some more.

Hands down the most reliable place in the city. I know that I can go to Gitane, get my cous cous or aioli and parmesan grilled bread, or any number of dishes and leave satisfied. Oh, and also REALLY REALLY good coffee. I love that when I get a mochaccino it comes with a little paw print on the top. It's the little touches like that, that have kept me coming back for 5 1/2 years. The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and comfortable. They should definitely NOT expand. The charm would be gone.

I love this little cafe. The food is always reliable and amaxing and the service is great. Whenever I am in Soho I always have to stop and eat at this amazing place. The chicken is great and the tomato moz is to die for. Definetly try!

The baked feta was a great way to begin the meal, and an unbelieveable experience! Friendly staff, great champaigne, and wonderful couscous and satay! Although small, the old world charm is uncompromised!

We stumbled across Gitane after walking through SoHo. What a great find. I love Mediterranean food and everything on the menu looked great. We lucked out and got a table outside. Compared to other places in NYC, this was a great value. Got very crowded right after we sat down, but I'm affraid it will lose its charm if they expand. Wait staff was very friendly and did not rush us.
