    Beautiful place in every way

Superb filet and Mexican Chocolate Cake--all I had pre-NYCBallet. Incredibly sweet and attentive service and the place itself is truly gorgeous. You can sit at the window and look toward the AM NaturalHistory or at good-looking people, etc. Some of the negative reviews just go to show that hitting places at the right time may have something to do with the experience. I definitely want to go back to this place during the Spring NYCB season.

    Don't go on the weekends

The food and drinks here are amazing. I usually go for a Heradura margarita but I heard that the caperinas are good too. It's pricey but authentic Mexican restaurants are hard to come by in New York. It gets a bit loud in the space so if you want to have a more relaxing time, go on the weekdays.

    Fair, at best...

After reading all the reviews, I was pretty excited about going to this place. Boy, was I disappointed! The food is mediocre, the portions are so small, and the staff is somewhat rude. Do not recommend, at all. At least not if you're looking for real Mexican food. The atmosphere is pleasant, although basically a yuppie hangout.

    Love this place...

This place is great! Killer margaritas, intimate and colorful space, excellent food; I can't get enough. The guac and salsa are of the finest quality, and the soups are TO DIE FOR. The queso fondito is super. Everything I've had here is fantastic! My only criticism is that they charge you for extra tortillas, when the four you get aren't enough to finish the dish they are accompanying. But that certainly won't stop me from coming back; this place is WAY too delicious.

    Not worth the aggravation

The food is good. The staff is inattentive and sometimes simply nonexistent. The place in the evenings is filled with drunken birthday party revelers who tend to be loud, obnoxious types that overshadow any talent that the chef has.

    Original and Excellent Food

I am Mexican and last summer I went to NY for vacation, casually I found this restaurant and impress me find a original dishes from different parts of Mexico. I tasted 'Mole Negro' and 'Pollo Pibil' and if you like to taste a genuine mexican flavor you must try it. By the way there are a dark mexican beers. It was a gratifying experience.

    Not bad...

Last week, my boyfriend and I made our first visit to Cafe Frida after reading the many glowing reviews. We had a reservation, but still waited at the cramped bar for about 30 minutes and watched while 4 to 5 other couples were seated ahead of us. I would have left, had I not been starving. Once we were seated, we ordered the made to order guacamole, which was delicious. Don't be scared by ordering it "spicy"... it's really not that hot. Our entrees were okay... I ordered shrimp, scallops, and tuna in a spicy broth, and my boyfriend ordered the lamb. They were decent, but not worth the hefty price. Entrees at Cafe Frida are almost as expensive as those at Zona Rosa and Rosa Mexicano, but are definitely not as high quality. Overall, a decent experience, but probably won't go back unless just for the guacamole and a few drinks at the bar.
