    A disappointment

Aside from the guacamole, which was very good, the food was decent but overpriced given the small portions. I don't mind splurging on an excellent meal, but our meals were average at best, and did not justify the price. The service was poor. Our large group was eager to learn more about various dishes on the menu, but the waiter was unwilling to stay at our table long enough to answer our questions, or even take drink orders for half the people at our table. In short, we will be looking for another option the next time we want Mexican food. With 200+ Mexican restaurants listed in this guide, there must be many that are better than this.

    Perfection

I have eaten at Cafe Frida many times and always had a pleasant experience! It is the go to place when friends and family come into town! Everyone will enjoy this fantastic food and friendly service!! But on a weekend night make sure to make a reservation!! And be sure to try there fresh Guacamole and don't miss the Fajitas!

    !

I love this place. I've eaten here a few times now and the food is consistently good. Not the typical Tex Mex fare served in most Mexican restaurants - interesting flavors and combinations, and even familiar dishes are kicked up a notch with fresh, prime ingredients and sophisticated seasoning. Portions are generous, too.

    Pretty good overall...

I enjoyed my meal here. The tuna was high quality and well prepared. The queso fundido was very good, although as a "for 2" dish the portion was slightly on the small side. The fajitas looked good. The pollo pibil was just ok. The margaritas were very good. All in all slightly expensive but acceptable. I enjoyed the decor, and the service was prompt (although for early on a Saturday evening they weren't very busy). I would come here again and recommend the place to others.

    Not very good ...

Believe the bad reviews ... not the good. The duck was fatty and the portion was small, the guacamole was below average, the fajitas were greasy, and our waiter could not have been more aloof. We had to ask 3 times for water and then 2 times (and 2 different people) to have our glasses refilled. Btw ... to add insult to injury ... they pack the space with so many tables that the entire experience winds up being uncomfortable. I would, unfortunately, put this on my "avoid" list ... There are too many other good restaurants to waste time with this one.

    Beautiful place in every way

Superb filet and Mexican Chocolate Cake--all I had pre-NYCBallet. Incredibly sweet and attentive service and the place itself is truly gorgeous. You can sit at the window and look toward the AM NaturalHistory or at good-looking people, etc. Some of the negative reviews just go to show that hitting places at the right time may have something to do with the experience. I definitely want to go back to this place during the Spring NYCB season.

    Don't go on the weekends

The food and drinks here are amazing. I usually go for a Heradura margarita but I heard that the caperinas are good too. It's pricey but authentic Mexican restaurants are hard to come by in New York. It gets a bit loud in the space so if you want to have a more relaxing time, go on the weekdays.
