We Love Cafe Frida
We are from California and good ol' Wisconsin, and this is (in our opinion) the very best Mexican food we have ever eaten, and we have had a lot of good good good Mexican food. Let us just say: The guacamole is the best! It is so amazing, I am drooling just thinking about it, and everything else there that we have had and we've tried about 5 things, were all excellent. Anything with Poblanas is "excellente" so to speak. Muy Bien!

Best quality Mexican in NYC
I'm from California and let me tell you...most of NYC lacks decent Mexican food (and not that crap Tex-Mex). Cafe Frida may be a little expensive for Mexican, but the quality is excellent. The guacamole is the BEST! Great mojitos too. Whether you eat brunch or dinner, you are sure to feel satisfied leaving the restaurant.

Don't order the steak!
After reading all the great reviews here I was excited to eat at Cafe Frida. I'm sorry to say it was a huge disappointment. I ordered the steak, medium. It was the toughest steak I have ever had the mispleasure of eating anywhere in my entire life! It took about 60 chews to get a small piece down. I had to drown it in the measly portion of salsas that came on the side! The side dishes of rice, refried beans and guac were good but very very tiny. Oh and don't order the Chocolate "cake" either. It was 3 tiny medallions of chocolate with a spoonful of whipped cream in the middle of them. No cake in sight! I wanted to share the "chocolate cake" with the person I was with -- it was hardly enough for 1 person, nevermind two, which would be fine except they charged about $9. Next time I want Mexican food I'm going to Mama Mexico.

Best Mexican food in NYC
By far this is the best Mexican food in NYC. I have tried all and by far the sazon here is fantastique!. Service is friendly, but on week-ends you have to wait a long time to get a table but is worth it. Margaritas are great and they just upgraded the wine list. Their house tequila is Herradura and that is phenomenal.

Great Mexican Cuisine
If you think Mexican Food means inexpensive burritos or Margaritaville, this restaurant will change your mind. Here they serve excellent Mexican Cuisine. The not to be missed items would be the Guacamole appetizer, Salmon entree, and the Cafe con Leche. The wine list is short but has an interesting mix of moderately priced new world wines from Latin and South America. We found the service to be prompt and friendly but not intrusive and the ambiance to be cozy and fun. Overall we found it to be a refreshingly different, high quality dining experience.

Great food, the rest needs work
The food is great. The guac is amazing. However, service leaves a lot to be desired. Water glasses empty more often than not, and even refills of margaritas can take forever.

Getting Cheaper on their Margaritas
We started going to Cafe Frida two or three years ago and discovered they had excellent and wonderful Margaritas. They used Herradura as their house brand and real lime juice. At happy hour these wonderful concoctions were two for one. Well, good things don't always last., sad to say. We went back for their Happy hour and they started using some cheaper brand for the two-for one special. It was still OK, but not the same at all. Looks like the luster is off this place. Maybe if they get the word they change back.
