    Excellent lunch!

I had a lovely Sopa Azteca, roasted tomato soup with sides of avocado, cheese, fried tortilla strips and (yum!) roasted ancho chilies. The Enchiladas de Mole was very good. Service was fabulous!

    Once Was Enough

Very disappointing -- watery margaritas, a refusal to serve a few chips while sipping, bland, unimaginative, overpriced food. Among the worst of New York.

    Beyond Subpar

I went to Cafe Frida for lunch and it was possibly the poorest Mexican culinary experience I have had in New York. When we walked in we had to wave to get someone's attention who was clearly unhappy to have customers in the restaurant. When she finally had the good grace to seat us it was at a table so cramped the patrons next to us had to get up and move their table over so that we could squeeze into ours. When we finally sat down, we might as well have sat on the neighbor's laps for all the space we had. We ordered the lunch special and it was disappointing. It was just plain atrocious. I ordered steak fajitas without peppers and of course received steak fajitas with extra peppers. It would have been easier to eat the sole of a shoe than this particular cut of meat and the peppers were half cooked making them all the more disagreeable. To make matters worse, the chef decided to abuse the achiote, making everything taste artificial and leaving an offensive, orange glean of grease all over the plate. The tortillas are nothing to write home about, the chips greasy, the guacamole straight from a tube and the beers warm and served in a plastic cup. Overall, unless you really hate yourself and your stomach, I wouldn't take even my worst enemy to eat here.

    Best Mexican food in NYC!

This was my first time at Cafe Frida and I loved it. I have been to Mexico and the food at Cafe Frida is the closest you could get to a real authentic Mexican meal. The service is great and the desserts are out of this world in particular the coconut flan and the platano macho which they light up its delicious. Kudos to the chef.

    Fun Good Mexican

Great drinks. The traditional margarita they serve has no sweetener, which I like, and it's really good. Three of us shared two entrees and we couldn't even finish it all because the portions are big. Guacamole is some of the best in town. Also very reasonably priced. Food here is way better than Rosa Mexicana and priced much better too! Staff is also friendly and accommodating.
