Not particularly good
Was hoping merely for excellent Dim Sum but was disappointed and the entree did not change my opinion.

pretty disappointing
quite expensive for chinese food. The noodle dishes were full of oil, the meat looked reheated in one dish and not completly coocked in the other one and with a bad look

What happened?
Used to think this place was above average. They do make good wonton dumplings in the soup. Not your typical, thick skinned dumpling - much lighter, which is probably why so many people like their dim sum. But I've noticed that it's going downhill. The egg roll today was rather dry. But the poorest part was the Grand Marnier prawns. Don't ask me why, but today I had a yen for them. They were soggy, no taste of GM, and this big glop of some sort of mayo sauce on each. Not their finest hour... Seriously thinking of finding a new place.

Mediocre food
Cafe Evergreen was well looked after when it opened many years ago. Today it is a regrettable restaurant due to its worn out, ripped-fabric on all the furniture, and the greasy oversalted food. Chicken dishes will be served with rubbery pieces of chicken that could not have possibly been cooked within the previous six hours. Steak dishes in sauce can be tender or tough, and the sauces may be pleasant or unsavory. Where is the quality control? This is also a very overpriced restaurant, and for no reason, since you are eating in a room that's dated and in a state of frozen fall-apart. Stay away from moo-shu chicken; it is way too salty. Stay away from chicken altogether. Pineapple rice is also a waste of time. And it's too bad they don't serve roast pork. You'll get fried rice with bland gray slices of pork. Your safest bet is seafood, and at another restaurant.

this is the best
This is the best Chinese restaurant outside Chinatown (and few in Chinatown can compare.) The people are informative and pleasant, the food is superb. I've been coming here for more than 20 years and I cannot understand what people are complaining about. It's not that they remember me. Even my first time it was great.

Best Dim Sum in NYC!
Having grown up in Hong Kong, I'm particularly picky about my dim sum. Cafe Evergreen has the most authentic, refined dim sum in the city, in fact, in the U.S. I've had dim sum all over the U.S...Evergreen is very hard to beat. It surpasses all the restaurants I've tried in Chinatown and in Queens which tend to be too greasy for me. I only wish Evergreen has as big a variety as the Chinatown restaurants but their food quality is far superior. I'd take quality over quantity for sure. Certainly, the atmosphere and service at Evergreen is also more relaxed and less rushed than the Chinatown/Queens restaurants. I wish Evergreen would do dimsum every day!

Excellent Dim Sum
Quality dim sum and great variety. Best you will find on the UES. They offer very nice seafood dishes and Cantonese style food. Fast delivery and very nice staff.
