    Service needs to improve

Food was good but the service was not! I have experienced this lately in a few places...if you do not order drinks, they get annoyed. I am not a drinker, that's the end of the story, the attitude was very obvious. Won't be going back.

    Bad Experience

A couple of girl friends and I decided to stop in for the lunch special. From beginning to end, we had the worst service I've ever experienced in NYC. The waiter was rude and looked annoyed when we asked him to explain the lunch special. When they brought us the check, I said, "Isn't a dessert included in the special?" and the waiter looked irritated and snapped that we hadn't asked for it! (If it's included in the prix fixe we shouldn't have to ask specifically for every course). Your money is much better spent elsewhere.

    Consistently good

I have been going to Cafe Espanol since 1980, when the entire restaurant was the front room with the bar by the door. The place offers consistently good food and great value.

    Monday night leftover paella

I would have like to have seen the paella fresher or cooked to order. The paella was dry reheated rice with a chunk of dry chicken thrown in. At least the shrimp, scallop and mussels were freshly cooked but it was in contrast to the rice. I'm used to a little more flavor to the dish and this was rather bland. My friends ordered a very nice lobster dish and some delicious vegetables. The sausage and jamon serrano was very good. Guess I'm spoiled by dining recently in Santiago de compostela and Madrid.

    One of my faves

This is one of my top restaurants in the city. The food is always wonderful, and not expensive. The service is always great. Me and my family always come back to our tried and true restuarant. We've even got out friends addicted to it too. If you've never ordered the Tostones you are in for a treat. They are not on the menu so just ask for them when you order. Mar y Mar is always delicious (especially in garlic sauce). Yum just thinking about it makes me hungry!
