I recently went to cafe espanol and the experience was very mediocre to kinda bad.... The restaurant itself looks tired. Needs a decor update desperately, along with a menu revamping. The dishes seemed very boring. Not to mention, my shrimp was stringy and old tasting. I won't be going back....

Went here two years ago and have been back at least once a month ever since. Food is very good, large portions. It is a busy place, with several of the neighborhood people returning often. Staff are polite and service is very good. The atmosphere is what you make it.

so many spanish restaurnts a pretentious. this place doest strike a trendy pose. it maintains some old-fashioned new-york spanish cliches such as serving corn chips and uninspired salads. they are complementary however. this generosity is very genuinely spanish as in spain.-- even these offerings aren,t very sapnish. the seafood is dependably fresh., the sangria is agreat value(OFTEN SERVED WITH A SPLASHOF LICOR 41). the service is professional and genial. ists a deal and its good, so go.

Hey all, Went to Cafe Espanol on Carmine recently because I was in the mood for Spanish and it was close to the Film Forum. I have to say the food was just uninspiring and somewhat boring. The atmosphere is kind of old fashioned and a bit tacky... The service was good, but that's about all it has going for it. While it was ok value, I do not think I will return anytime soon.

What a great little place. We had a fantastic meal here recently. My husband had the lobster which he raved about. I had the garlic shrimp which was absolutely delicious. The sangria was awesome too!

I went back to Cafe Espanol with buddies from my French Language group on 4 days ago, for lobsters. Some of us ordered the grilled, I tried the steamed. I recommend the grilled. The steamed lobster was a lot tougher.

I was there with my photographer after work 3 days ago and we had a great time. The food was good. Great value. Wait staff was very friendly and professional. The lobsters were properly done which was important to me. Will go back, for sure!
