please stop using parboiled rice
I've been eating here for years and years, and I've always loved their yellow rice. But the last time I ate there (about a week ago) I was flabbergasted to receive a plate of parboiled rice!. -- it's used in all sorts of cheap restaurants and delis, and is apparently easier to work with in restaurants. The grains are way too smooth and rounded -- and it just tastes instant or something. Please, Cafe Espanol, go back to your wonderful home-cooked rice. Thank you.

A nice place to have nice tapas and seafood!
This place offers a very good menu of tapas. The seafood is really good! The menu represents perfectly the spanish cuisine. The paella with seafood is one of my favorites. My only complaint is that the waiters don't interact much with customers, they are a little shy.

Delicious SeaFood, attentive staff
I have eaten there quite a few times. Had my birthday at Cafe Espanol last year - it was cozy, food was great. Octopus and shrimp were delicious. Staff was gracious and very attentive. You can enjoy a nice quite and flavorful meal there.

They've made a big mistake
They've blinked, after so many good years. The paella now comes in one platter, with no extra pot. And the rice was severely undercooked.

Good food, great portions, terrific ambience & service
Very good paella and pork extremena. Service is attentive without being overbearing. Sangria pitcher w/killer sangria and 6 huge glasses for $22. You'll get the check and not believe the amount & quality of food for the price. Not your typical loud NYC place either. Very cozy & romantic atmosphere, without being stuffy or outdated. That's why it's been around for over 20 years!

almost average
there were 5 of us - 5 different entrees - and most were mediocre at best. the service was ok - they kept trying to move us along. granted, we weren't drinking, but the place was not crowded. maybe the sister restaurant on bleecker is better?
