This was our first time there 2/10/12. We normally go to Cafe Espanol on Bleeker Street. Awesome restaurant. Food was great, very generous portions and reasonably priced. Fun and friendly staff. Service was very attentive. Look forward to returning again! It has replaced our former number one Spanish (Spain) restaurant. What has made the place special was NOT only the food but the entire wait staff! Victor/waiter and with the two owners(Pablo & Ignacio M.) along with the rest of the staff made it a freindly, festive, party atmosphere and made you feel at home and part of a true "family". We will start celebrating my and my wife's birthdays there along with many Valentines Day dinners, Christmas Eve dinners, romantic dinners and business dinners. My wife ordered a steak which is one of the best she ever had in a non "steak house" setting. The paella I had was excellent. Victor was very welcoming and professional. The noise level is "loud & energetic" to say the least - we like that! The only thing wrong was the rice that came with my wife steak was very mushy, no problem told Victor and he replaced it with green beans and all was fine. He took the step to try it and agreed and notified the chef. The rice with the paella was outstanding. The price of half/full pitchers of sangria are totally well priced compared to other Spanish/Spain restaurants in Manhattan. We will start doing birthday parties, dinner parties, holiday dinners (Christmas & New Years Eve) here on a regular basis as we did at the Bleeker Street restaurant. Victor will always be our waiter. We will start spreading the word to all our friends and all my clients to dine here. This is truly a "hidden gem" and probably does not get as many reviews since most people do not know about it due to its location at the end of the block and the cross street leading to the tunnel for New Jersey. It is a great discovery.

I've been eating here for years and years, and I've always loved their yellow rice. But the last time I ate there (about a week ago) I was flabbergasted to receive a plate of parboiled rice!. -- it's used in all sorts of cheap restaurants and delis, and is apparently easier to work with in restaurants. The grains are way too smooth and rounded -- and it just tastes instant or something. Please, Cafe Espanol, go back to your wonderful home-cooked rice. Thank you.

This place offers a very good menu of tapas. The seafood is really good! The menu represents perfectly the spanish cuisine. The paella with seafood is one of my favorites. My only complaint is that the waiters don't interact much with customers, they are a little shy.

I have eaten there quite a few times. Had my birthday at Cafe Espanol last year - it was cozy, food was great. Octopus and shrimp were delicious. Staff was gracious and very attentive. You can enjoy a nice quite and flavorful meal there.

They've blinked, after so many good years. The paella now comes in one platter, with no extra pot. And the rice was severely undercooked.

Very good paella and pork extremena. Service is attentive without being overbearing. Sangria pitcher w/killer sangria and 6 huge glasses for $22. You'll get the check and not believe the amount & quality of food for the price. Not your typical loud NYC place either. Very cozy & romantic atmosphere, without being stuffy or outdated. That's why it's been around for over 20 years!
