Consistently good
We dine here frequently and have never been disappointed by the food, service, or friendliness of the staff. Reservations are honored on time. Even the bread and olive oil (for dipping) are delicious. All in all a very pleasant dining experience at reasonable prices.

Disappointing
Roast chicken came burned. And VERY over-salted. Mouth burns still. Does this "new chef" think he should brine a chicken? Salad tired, greens soft, some black. Fried potatoes very good, although "oven-roasted" was on menu. Bill was wrong--$2 more than price on menu. Waitress very nice. Might try again since close by, but I'll order very carefully, with instructions. Should this be necessary for a roast chicken and and salad? How much safer a choice can one make?

Do not order delivery from here
I really don't understand why they offer delivery if they cannot handle it. I ordered a number of times and they always take more than an hour for a burger and roast chicken. Spoke with the manager and he explained that the chicken takes half hour. So why does it take more than an hour to deliver? He doesn't know. And doesn't seem to care.

Great brunch
The food was delicious, and the staff was very attentive!! While previous reviews mention poor service, we were greeted and served with lots of friendly attention. Brunch with 4 adults and 3 kids (2, 3, & 4 years old). The waiter brought out craft paper and crayons to keep the kids occupied... And the food was very tasty. My water glass and coffee cup were refilled several times without me having to ask. I will be back for sure.

French Bistro with Flavorful Fare
I was nervous at first about eating dinner here. Past reviews cited awful service and lackluster food. But the Cafe du Soleil was near our hotel so we went anyway. My family is notorious for choosing convenience over quality when it comes to dining. So I was surprised when the meal played out smoothly! The portions are huge. We started with the calamari appetizer. The octopus came out super lightly fried, but retained its crunch and flavor. I also liked the duo of dipping sauces the calamari came with. I ordered the mescalin salad to start. Nothing too fancy. It didn't come with exceptional dressing, but the greens were piled high and fresh. For my meal, I had the tuna tartare with caviar. The dish arrived over finely sliced cucumber rounds with a drizzle of sauce, I think the dish could have used more of. I was impressed by my mom's Cobb salad, which came uniquely presentated. Each ingredient - the avocado, egg, bacon, chicken, tomato, onion - was placed in a row next to another on a flat, rectangular plate, over minimal greens. And the Roquefort was incredible! We also ordered the moules de dijonaisse and the poulet de roti, both of which were so big we couldn't finish. The fries were yummy, and the chicken was crisp on the outside and juicy inside. The cafe is a bit pricey, but when you see the portions you'll understand why. The profiterole for dessert fed all four of us! And it seems, based on our experience, management has hired a more competent waitstaff. Would we go here again? With all the dining options in the city for travelers, maybe not. But if you're craving Provencal Bistro Fare (white wine, butter, yum...) on the upper West side, don't let the other reviews of this place scare you! Cafe de Soleil is pretty darn good.

Bonjour Chef and Front House Manager
Brunch at Cafe du Soleil could be much better and should be considering there are nearby restaurants serving brunch at better prices. During my visit I had an absent-minded waiter which resulted in not being able to eat. How sad is that? Leaving a restaurant hungry? The coffee was strong & good, but I never had an opportunity to order more. I had a hard time deciding which brunch item to order, and when I was served mine there were several problems with it. Our waiter didn't check in with us a few minutes after the dishes were served. It would have made a difference if she had! The dish I ordered was ouefs en cocotte which are baked eggs with roasted red & yellow sweet peppers, spicy tomato, sautéed onion & goat cheese, served with garlic pommes frites for $13.95 and a latte for $3.95. What I got was a cup of not spicy tomato sauce with two unsalted eggs on top (maybe baked, maybe cooked on the flat top) with two pats of goat cheese. The garnish was two pieces of frisée and a single chive. This dish was not browned or baked in the oven. The only way to eat this dish is with a spoon, but I had no spoon. It was served with NO bread. Please, chef, re-consider this dish and how it is served. Due to the waiter never stopping at the table -- for any reason -- I had to wait to catch another staff member's eye to ask for bread. They weren't that busy! I asked for bread when our dishes were delivered, but the runner didn't follow-up. Finally we got bread after asking a second time. Now the dish is cold & even more unappetizing, and I got the waiter to our table. She explained that people like the dish the way it is, offered to get me something else, I declined (because my dining partner was halfway done eating his dish), she took away the dish. Never asking if she could get us more coffee. Too bad that the waiter is helpless and incompetent -- I would have happily selected another dish. Other diners seemed happy with their meal although I noticed no one was eating ouefs en cocotte. A second waiter cleared our table and asked if we enjoyed everything, and I said no, I didn't enjoy it, I didn't get to eat, and I explained the problems. He apologized and adjusted the check so I wouldn't pay for it or for my latte which was unexpected. I very much appreciated it. I like Cafe du Soleil. Too bad it was a big disappointment today. I hope the front house manager and chef consider my comments.

Good food, great value!
Recently been to this place for fish night (Thursday) and steak night (Monday). Both times the food was very good. Fish was fresh and well prepared. Steak was also cooked well and very juicy. Excellent value!
