    i eat here too

I am a local who likes to eat at the bar. The service there is fine. The bartenders (yes they have had some beautiful women who bartend) are attentive but I think they are instructed in the art of the cheap pour. No new glasses for each order-just refill. On the other hand their food portions are very generous. I think the specials are not as good as the regular fare. Someone wrote the tuna and salmon carpaccio was inedible. I concur; the fish is drowned in lemon juice. The ketchup thing: my guest had to ask for ketchup for the fries and they provided a dollop. She also thought the multi-colored seltzer bottles were silly. But what does she know, she is only 25 and beautiful. This place sure as hell beats what used to be there.

    just perfect for the ues

I love this place!!! I live on the upper east side and always bring out of towners here. We can walk up and have a great meal with great service. I enjoy sitting at the bar (the service is always right in front of you for your needs) and love having food and drink with great converstion in an incredible environment! Happy, full of life and the food is just great! I have had a few misses but not compared to most of the UES! Just great and the 2 stars are well deserved!

    What happened ?!?

Have been to Cafe d'Alsace a few times before and have always been impressed. Arrived last night without a reservation and the restaurant was only half full so we were able to get a table with no problem. The kitchen must have been bored as we had our appetizers maybe as soon as our server had dropped the order in the ktichen. One of which was a Scallop and Salmon Carparccio. It was in-edible... You couldn't eat, let alone taste the fish over far too much salt and lemon juice. It was sent back, there was no explaination, just an in-sincere apology. The Tarte Flambe however, was good. Then came our main courses (just as quick!), two steak dishes. The steaks were average and both came with sauces (Bernaise & Red Wine) and fries. Question - We are dining in a French/German restaurant, so why is it obligatory to serve bowls of Ketchup with our steaks ??? The already come with there own sauces!!! Is this not something that diners could request if needed. All in all, we had our meal in less than half an hour with below average food and in-sincere service (didn't even have time to drink!). A real shame...But too many other good places in NYC frequent.

    Solid food, service problems

The food is very decent--good steak frites, tatin, and wine list. The sommelier was very knowledgable and friendly. That being said, the service was very mediocre. No water refills, we poured our own wine, and took forever for the check.

    Best burger I've ever had!

Went to DalSace last week and ordered their burger -- omg, amazing! It is seriously one of the best burgers I've had in the city, and I've tried all the big places. Go and you will not be disappointed. $16 might sound like a lot, but it's worth it.

Pretty good food, snooty and poor service

Not a bad place overall; food was pretty good but a bit overpriced for the prix fixe lunch. We found that the hostesses were snooty and did not seem to try to be accomodating. Rather than allowing waiting customers to sit outside at empty tables, the hostess proclaimed certain tables "out of service," for no apparent reason. We waited a very long time for entrees, and often had to flag down busboys for water and to remove trays. Lunch took almost two hours. If you're in no hurry, the outdoor seating makes up for the slow and almost rude service.

    Poor service

As previousl;y reported the food here is OK, a bit overpriced but not outrageous. We called to inquire how late lunch would be served--the website said til 5pm and the person answering confirmed this. We arrived around 4:35pm and were told only dessert and coffee were being served. No meal until 5 pm. dinner time. We said we called to verify lunch hours only an hour ago; the young lady maitress 'd couldn't have less. She repeated we're only serving ... No apology, no mistake--too bad. So, we wandered around and came back and unfortunately, we should not have. Food was mediocre. Will never return.
