Cafe d'Alsace

This place has been spoiled by its success. It is now crowded and very noisy. Recently (Dec. 14), I was brought a drink that was watery and had practically no alcohol. I sent it back and was brought a larger glass which contained an even weaker drink. I asked to speak with the manager, who came after a fairly long wait. He showed little sympathy for my complaint and lectured me that their drinks contain one and a half ounces of liquor. He promised to send another drink, which he would supervise. It never arrived.

First of all I would like to mention that I never write reviews. However, when I encounter such an awful experience like I've had tonight, I must express it. We ordered the entrees and we got a terrible attitude, but still, I didn't make a big deal. Afterwords, I ordered a coke. Little did I know that this would be the worst decision of my evening. The waitress went towards me with the glass and spilled the whole thing on my new clothes, body, and belongings (she ruined my Iphone). While I do believe that humans make mistake, I am a strong believer in common curtasy. She hissed something, and never apologized to me for what had happened. I was shocked, I never encountered such a disrespectful attitude in my entire life. Furthermore, she threw the dishes we ordered on the table, made pissed faces at us, and used zero polite words throughout the dinner. Honestly, I am not a person that complains much but this woman had got me so infuriated for her lack of manners. Other than that, we ate the burger and the mussles, they were good but the portions were too small and definitely overpriced. Won't go back it's just not worth it.

Long wait for below average food. They don't take reservations and when we called they saiid 10 min wait. Got there and had to wait 40 minutes. Menu was different from website and they don't do substitutions. Very loud. Shocking that it is so popular given their service.

Ordered delivery from here last night, did the fixed price option and that trout was so good. This leek sauce was out of this world. The mushroom risotto was just okay, but that could be because the food wasn't still hot when it got here. The risotto just seemed bland with too much truffle oil. But the trout dish was worth the money for all of it; I'll def be back in person or for delivery.

The beer list is very impressive and they have a cask. It's the only respectable craft beer bar in the UES with the bonus of great food. The scallops were perfectly cooked and delicious. Definitely a gem of the UES.

I stuck with the vegetarian dishes, but come back for them at least once a week. Especially exquisite are: gougeres, caprese tart flambee, farmers market salad, the french munster cheese, asparagus, mashed potatoes and creme brulee. You can also get your choice of cheese for even yummier spaetzle...

Very disappointed in this place. Had high expectations based on a great review by NY Magazine. At the waitresses suggestion, we ordered the mussels which less than stellar. Will not return be returning anytime soon.
