I had been wanting to try CAFE CORTADITO since I read the review in the NYMAG. Unfortunately it was the worst experience I have ever had with a restaurant in my life. We had a 9 pm reservation for 4 people - we were sat right away which was nice but then the trouble started. We tried to open a second bottle of wine halfway through our meal and we were told no because people were waiting for our table. This was at 945 - It is not as if we had dragged our meal out - we were only 45 mins in! In addition, we opted to order eight smaller plates to taste and share between all of us and we were told another reason we had to leave was that we didn't order enough. We were perusing dessert menus when the hostess/owner (?) came over to us and told us NO to dessert and it was time to go b/c they had people waiting. Everyone in the restaurant had been seated before us and no one else was being rushed through their meal. It was appalling to me that we were basically being told to leave a restaurant when we were contemplating ordering more food. Overall, we were treated in an extremely rude manner and although the food was good - I will never go back - The best way to treat a paying customer is to not throw them out the door 45 mins into their meal. Rude.

I had been looking forward to trying Cafe Cortadito since I read the review in NYMAG. I have never been treated in such a rude manner in all of NYC. After we were rushed through our first couse, the hostess informed us that we were not allowed to open our second bottle of wine (with 4 people) to drink with dessert because there were people waiting for our table. We had a 9pm reservation and were basically being told we had to leave by 10pm - immediately folllowing our second course - Every single person in the entire restaurant had already been eating when we sat down and we were the first people asked to leave. While we were considering ordering dessert, the hostess came and took our dessert menus away and told us we were done. RUDE RUDE RUDE. and the food did nothing to make us overlook that. never going back - a real shame considering the atmosphere was fantastic with infinite potential!

I have fallen in love with this little spot! The food is incredibly scrumptious. Everything was seasoned to perfection- nothing over or under-done. My husband had the churrascos (?) and I had the vaca frita. I was stuffed to capacity, yet couldn't stop eating. I had an intense compulsion to lick my plate! The service was nice, water was always refilled quickly and the atmostphere reminds you of a little cafe in the middle of Havana. Very cute and authentic. It is a small little place and the only downside is there is currently no wine list, but they do allow you to bring your own. My husband and I both agree - this is by far the absolute best cuban food we have ever had. I can't wait to go back.

We went last night for dinner, we were 8 people, made a reservation the night before, and were accomodated with no problem. The place is tiny but you never have the feeling of waiters or other customers "brushing" on you, so the atmosphere is very comfortable. Warm colors and joyful but non intrusive music in the background make you want to stay. The service was attentive and very nice, they asked which bottle we wanted opened, recommended appetizers, answered questions about the menu, always refill the water glasses without having to be called. And now about the food, rarely in this town of restaurants I have had the feeling that I was tasting something not only flavorful and delicious, but also so authentic. We tasted all the appetizers on the menu and they were all very good my personal favorite being the Empanaditas de Carne. We shared a Cubanito sandwich that could have probably used a little more "kick" with some hot sauce. Then we had the Ropa Vieja, very tasty, the Churrasco that was cooked to perfection and very juicy, the Vaca Frita that was a crowd favorite, and the Chuleta de Puerco so flavorful my mouth is still watering thinking about it. As dessert we had the Tre Leches, great consistency, two different textures and levels of sweetness, in other words the perfect ending to such a spectacular meal. Overall, the experience has been so great that now we are spoiled and want to make this our regular hang out spot.

This restaurant has excellent Cuban food at a very reasonable price. Everything, from the ensaladas to the steak entrees to the bocaditos, is delicious. The atmosphere is cozy and charming and the servers never rush you, even when there's a wait for tables. Best of all, it's still BYOB...

Went there only once for lunch. The food is very good and affordable, and the place is very nice. Will go back.
