Not special
Like others had walked by many times and thought the place looked cute and worth a try. Finally tried it on a Friday night--no wait for a table which was nice. We didn't even realize it was Brazilian- and maybe would not have at all were it not for the giant map pf Brazil on the wall. Pulled pork sandwich was too spicy--the plates had more potatoes on them than anything else it seemed. Pork ribs were very good though. Wine was nice- but slightly expensive. Overall just another average but cute restaurant on the Lower East side.

Not worth price or attitude
I went for Saturday brunch and had a very tasty cafe con leite and chocolate croissant. However it took forever for them to come out and the omelet was not the best I've ever tasted and certainly not worth the price. After about 45 minutes of enjoying our food, we paid our $50 and sat enjoying our coffee and talking. 15 minutes later the waitress blatantly told us to leave because there were people waiting for a table. She made us feel rude for enjoying our time. There are restaurants in new york that serve brunch efficiently and in good humor and don't make you feel rude after you pay $50 for some omelets and coffee. Go there instead!

not good at all
i was so excited to get my brazilian food today that after my first bite on my beans i wanted to cry. do not taste nothing like brazilian beans, poor seasoning and weird looking. i am from brazil so i am so disappointed that a place like this can still be called "brazilian"....brazil is well known for its diverse and well seasoned cuisine. Cafe Colonial is much more mexican than brazilian.

Here's South American Food!
Get the Pao de Quejo (cheese puffs) they are warm, melty, gooey, crusty, and cheesy... wonderful. The food is always lovely, I had a great juicy steak, a smoky smoked fish salad, a smooth seafood stew in coconut milk, and a great flan.

Seriously?
Sure, this place is super cute. I was in the neighborhood, and perhaps it was foolish, but I just stopped in to get a cup of iced coffee to go. My experience living in NYC is that iced coffee can range in price anywhere from $1.50 to 3.00 (in extreme cases) with an average of about $2.50. This place charges $3.80 for an ICED COFFEE in a smaller-than-what-is-normal 12 oz cup that is mostly ice. Really, Cafe Colonial, really? Almost $4 we're talking here. The same price as a cappuccino or latte anywhere else? I know you're in a hip neighborhood and all, but COME ON. I laughed and walked out, traveled down the street one block, and bought a regular-sized 16 oz iced coffee for $1.50. Just the way I like it.

Don't waste your time
Wow, I had been wanting to check this place out as it seems to always have people inside. I had heard good things too, and I had heard it was a celeb spot. So I finally made it over for brunch and boy was it just bland. I paid $12 for a luke warm omellette that had black beans and a dollop of sourcream on it. My date had some poached eggs on carrot biscut. I was very unimpressed, especially since the place was mostly empty and our server was slower then molasses.

Yummy 2nd choice
We were going to BarBossa down the street, but the wait was too long. We went here to Colonial instead which just happens to also be Brazillian. For service, they made us wait so long to take our orders, we were on the verge of walking out. For food, the food was very yummy and delicious and I ate it all up. I had the Chicken Veracruz, mashed sweet potatoes, kale, and sangria. For atmosphere, the place was dirtier than my kitchen, and in typical NY fashion, the chairs and tables did not match. My dad said the bench was too uncomfortable so we moved. For value, it's more than the rest of the country but typical for SoHo. I might go back if I was in the area, but it's not a destination.
