Since I live up the block from Cafe Cluny I watched it morph into a new restaurant. I thought great some place new to try Unfortunately, there is not one vegetarian entree on the menu. Yes, I know it's a french restaurant, and I know french restaurants are not noted for being vegetarian friendly. Still it would be nice to have an entree or two for a vegetarian neighbor. Paris has some really good vegetarian restaurants. Maybe the Cafe Cluny should expand its horizons and offer a chice for none flesh eaters.

A friend and I had dinner here the other night -- we didn't make a reservation but the really nice host told us that since we lived in the neighborhood, he'd find us a table quickly. We went to the crowded bar where two men gave up their seats for us. After a few minutes and glass of wine, we decided to just eat at the bar -- two over dressed salads, two main course priced but appetizer sized risottos and a strange dessert of grape tart and bad peanut butter ice cream later, the bill came to $180 including a 20% tip for the excellent bartenders. The service is knowledgeable and friendly but the mediocre food is not worth the price. Maybe it's better a brunch or breakfast but it's definitely not worth the price, the wait or the hype.

I forgot to mention dessert. Neither of us could find one item from their incredibly short dessert menu that we liked. That in itself is incredible...I mean, not ONE thing for dessert? You'd think a place like this would have some kind of molten chocolate cake or tarte tatin, but they didn't. They did have ice cream, though: four people at the next table ordered this and not one person, I noticed, finished it. As I said above, this place is good but way overpriced. Dessert would have addred another ten bucks to the tab. For the prices they charge, the food should be terrific, as it is at Veritas for example, but it isn't.

We've had one meal here and it was quite good: the wife had the pan-seared halibut special, I had the braised short ribs. The food was tasty, the service was really good...but the prices are a bit too high. The entrees should be $5 cheaper, easily. Dinner for two came to $140 with the tip; while the food was good, it wasn't THAT good. Down the street is a restaurants called The Place. The food there is damn good too and less expensive. We will go to Cafe Cluny again, but we'll have to take a tripto the ATM first.

I went with a group of friends last night and each of us thought the meal was so so and very overpriced. The wine, too, was just okay. The place is cute, but nothing to rave about. Our dessert, a kind of peanut butter and jelly thing, was not good. The staff is really nice and helpful, but no nice staff can make up for feeling like its too expensive.

We went to Cafe Cluny on the third night it was open and the place was buzzing. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. I will be going back soon hopefully!
