A little of Paris bistro in the west village
First time and it sure didn't disappoint in any way! Place is charming and intimate.. We went for an early dinner @ 5:30 and took advantage of the prix fixe menu, available til 6:30, which included an appetizer, entree and dessert. Portions were sizable, without being too much or too little - just perfect! Service was exceptional! Our waiter was attentive without being all over us, and we never felt rushed. I had the frisee salad, (which I order every chance I can), with a light delicious dressing and the steak frites, cooked very rare, exactly as I requested. It came with French fries, but were not indicated on menu. I also ordered a side of brussels sprouts, which were so tasty and cooked perfectly. My husband had a salad and the duck, which was tender and tasty. For dessert, I had a fantastic apple crisp and he had a whipped banana dessert that was fabulous! Great place! Look forward to going back! It is open all day, from breakfast thru dinner. It's a gem!

Great
I suppose you are familiar with the old: Its Saturday night, we forgot to make a reservation somewhere but we want to go some place kinda cool. Well, this is the place. Very cool little atmosphere, our waiter was amazing and the food was really good. The other people eating there were attractive. What more could you ask for?

a great little place
My parents and I went here on November 29 for dinner. We had 5:30 reservations as we had theatre tickets at 8 - it's a good thing we went with the earliest possibility as dinner is definitely relaxed. That was probably the only "negative" was we had to let our waiter know that we were ready for dessert (we had done the Prix Fixe that they offer from 5:30-6:30) or we might have missed the show curtain. We found the portions wonderful and nowhere near the "microscopic" or "minuscule" I've seen stated here, so either they have increased their portion sizes or people are far too accustomed to Americanized portions a la Olive Garden and the like. The food was beautifully presented and was PLENTIFUL. I highly recommend Cafe Cluny for dinner and cannot wait to try it for brunch sometime!

Perfect Parisian Bar
Small, 6-8 seats at the white, marble bar (we always sit at the bar if we can. We feel a the bar is a litmus test for the entire place)....Café Cluny was adorable with a sweet bartender who engaged us in conversation the entire time....fantastic wine by the glass (he let us taste before until we found the right one)....romantic, intimate, in one of NYC's best and most quaint neighborhoods. I sat there with my love for an hour...she had a Sancerre that transported her back to Paris and I a Cabernet that would have stood up nicely to the gorgeous slew of meats coming from the kitchen. I will most definitely be back. If I lived in the West Village, I would have my name on one of those lovely bar stools :)

servings don't get any smaller
This cafe has great ambience and a smiling staff but the food is pricey, the portions microscopic and the waiter hovers over you filling your wine glass after every sip! And the wine list offers no bargains, so for a neighborhood cafe, it feels very ungenerous.

$5 Iced Teas ?
Came here for brunch, breakfast club and blt were very good and decent value. But, $5 iced tea w/ no refill? Don't mind paying $15 for a good sandwich, but not for 3 refills of ICE with some tea. Charging for each refill is obnoxious, especially if they are hovering ready to pour you another.

Sunday Brunch
Hit at the right time, seated immediately. Friendly service. All four pleased w our selections - smoked salmon plate, roasted eggplant sandwich and couple of goat cheese-watercress salads. Delish. Quaint, cozy atmosphere. Will go again.
