delicious
My husband and I were in NY for a holiday and happened upon this restaurant. We wanted dinner and our planned destination was closed for renovations. What good luck for us. The food was great, I had the tuna tartar and the stuffed pork chop an he had the steak with a mushroom sauce. Everything was excellent and reasonable prices by NY standards. Service was good. i would totally go back.

Huge disappointment
I went to cafe champignon last sept with my friend and absolutely loved it , and could not wait to go back on my return trip to NYC . We went last night with our husbands and it was a disaster from start to finish . Cold food , overcooked steak , wrong wine order , surly staff ! Has it changed owner? Really disappointed.

My wife and daughter loved it
My wife and daughter went to New York with another girl and her mother. They were on a mission from Baltimore to acquire prom dresses. Neither had been to New York before, so it was a bit stressful trying to find a place with decent food. Thank you Cafe Champignon for feeding them with excellent food, service, and kindness. They raved about your place when they got back to Baltimore, and will definitely return, this time with me in tow.

Food was good but atmosphere left something to be desired
I went to this restaurant b/c people seem to love the place, but I have to say I was underwhelmed. The food was tasty - but not outstanding - and the atmosphere was definitely lacking. I can't say I would bother going back.

Une tranche de France
A place on the beaten path but so unsuspecting that people who pass by come and stare in the window and carry on. If you like either ambiance or french culinary delight, this is your kind of place. Hangar steaks are done in great tradition and the escargots are not only overflowing but are top-notch quality. Portions are generous as are wine pours. It is inexpensive by any means and especially for New York. There was a large group there for a birthday but our food was well thought out and served in European fashion, not rushed. Enjoy a slice of France here in the capital of the World.

Wonderful service, amazing food!
The service here is impeccable and the quality of food is awesome. The place is kind of small, but a good and intimate place for a date or small group of friends. Making reservations is wise because the place is not that big. I ordered their recommended Champignon Ravioli which was so delicious and the mushroom cream sauce was so good I finished up every remaining bit with bread. Of the appetizers we ordered fried calamari (perfect texture and consistency) and escargot (tender and good sauce). Their filet mignon is also very good. After we had each ordered a glass of white wine (great wine!), the owner came around throughout the night refilling our glasses on the house! The service here is very good and staff is very attentative.
