Romantic
Ate here on a Saturday night and had a wonderful experience. The foie gras was the best I have had in a long time and the rest of the meal, especially dessert, was very good. Prices, for this area, are reasonable. Lastly, unlike the rest of the week, they are not often busy on a Saturday night allowing for a leisurely and quiet meal in a beautiful room.

Bad day at Cafe Centro
I usually have a good lunch at Cafe Centro. Today was the exception. Is it true you shouldn't order fish on Mondays? I had scallops and they were barely seared, cold on the inside and tasted slightly off. I pushed them around my plate and did not mention it to the server because I was with clients and didn't want to make a scene. Luckily, my clients seemed OK with their lunches. I would hope chefs in an expensive restaurant like Cafe Centro should know bad fish and not serve it. I had to come back to my office and eat m&ms to try to cover up the fish and ammonia taste.

Was a great experience!
Everything was great. The service was good. The waitress was very welcoming to someone who looked confused and casual to this restaurant. The food was delicious and I didn't have to wait long for any of my meals. My most favorite dish was peach tarte tatin. The sweetness from the peach tart and candied ginger icecream just melted in your mouth. The seared cod was very good too. The skin was perfectly golden and the fish was not overcooked or tough. Overall, the summer menu was very light and spring-like. Everything had a light and savoury taste. The service was great. I would recommend it to anyone who would like to treat somebody for a nice meal or for any business dinners. My only complaint is that it is a bit pricey.

Check it out
Hadn't been to Centro in a while and found it much better than on previous visits. It's a pretty place and the service was unusully cordial last night. In addition, their $35 prix fixe is really a bargain. I had the "petit" fillet mignon which was not petit at all. They throw in a decent lobster tail for an additional $6. Both appetizier and dessert were above average. I call this a good deal, especially for mid-Manhattan so give it a try.

Decent, not great
Had dinner during restaurant week. The food was fine, nothing special. Everything was a bit bland. The scallop appertizer was decent. The fish main course was pretty good, with a pretty large portion. Desert was amazing. I had the chocolate ice cream sandwich. It was served with mint creme on the side. The service was good. The waiter was attentive, but not overbearing. It was a nice restaurant week dinner, but I don't plan on going back.

Great
I went during restaurant week, so my lady and I got prix fixe dinners. This was about two months ago, so I don't remember everything we had, but I just remembered how great this place was and wanted to write a review. Anyway, The truffle risotto appetizer was absolutely wonderful. They were running a promotion with wine when you bought a bottle (I don't remember what it was), but we got a bottle of Martin Ray Merlot (don't remember the vintage) which was great and for a good price. I had filet mignon, which was cooked and seasoned perfectly. My partner had a rooster dish which was also excellent. Unfortunately I cannot elaborate on the specific dishes, but the service, atmosphere, and quality of food were impressive. I will be back- even without the restaurant week deals it is worth the money.

Fine atmosphere, good food
Because I was offered a 50/50 birthday coupon through Dine Out New York I came here for dinner with a friend. The deal is that you pay the first $50 on your dinner and the resto covers the rest (up to $50). On top of that it was the week of the winter promotion and the prix fixe dinner was only $35. Needless to say a great deal which amounted to the best meal I had in New York during my trip. The waiter was punctual and polite. Excellent service that received a generous tip. The art nouveau interior was cozy with large tables (we got a booth) so we weren't packed together. Food: My friend didn't think much of the fish soup and felt it lacking in seafood. However, I praised the 4 oysters I had (a reasonable $2.50 each) which went well with the Bass Ale draft. My duck entree was also excellent and the two desserts we shared (one chocolate, one orange) capped a very good meal overall. Sorry, these were special prix fixe items, so they're not on the regular menu here, but I vouch for this place. Finally, the location in the MetLife is close to Saturday night entertainment in Manhattan.
