    1st time vegan: Blown away

Just excellent. It was the first time for me eating vegan cuisine, and it was perfect. We had the quinoa spaghetti and the risotto Truly gastronomic. And the prices are very reasonable. I can say that it was the best restaurant I had in NYC so far. I could not believe it was vegan food. But the quality was such that this detail did not even matter.

    Measly Portions, Measly Service

This place has serious problems. You would expect a vegan restaurant to care about its staff like it cares about animal welfare. Well, the staff receive no wage and live off tips alone, so the waitress claims. Not that the staff deserve any tips. When we complained that the portions were so small, we were still starving (I have never felt hungry after a main meal at a restaurant before), we were not even offered a slice of bread to fill us up. It was so expensive (7 dollars for a SMALL glass of green smoothie!!) We were told, 'The lasagne is cut from a pan, so sometimes the portions are bigger and sometimes smaller." Right, so I'm supposed to be comforted that another customer got half of my meal with his own? When the waitress returned with the bill, we expected that she would have returned what the kitchen staff had replied, but nothing came. To be fair, we are British, and we don't tip when treated like this. However, we now understand that Americans apparently have to, and we were chased down the street by the irate waitress to retrieve her undeserved tip. If the culture is to tip as obligatory you are taking away the customer's right to any kind of meaningful complaint. What use is complaining if there is no outcome? Plus, the atmosphere was dead, the kitchen staff were slow and surly and another customer was really disappointed with her food at the same time. On the plus side, the tiny amount of food was tasty. When you don't eat any meat, it takes a greater amount of food to fill up as the nutritional density of the food is lower. Get a grip, Blossom!

    Simply amazing sandwiches

Not a vegan, but amazed how good it was.

    Felt Ignored

I was really excited for a healthy vegetarian meal (for once) especially since the menu looked great! The food was good, it took a little while to arrive, but once it did, I truly enjoyed it. The only problem was the service - I had to basically beg to get someone to take care of our table. Unfortunate.

    Poorly managed

Service was poor. The place was empty (4 patrons at 12:30 PM when we arrived) and the young lady insisted we sit at a table for two, rather than at a larger table. We had to ask for salt and pepper. And then ask for freshly ground pepper. At these prices and in this type of restaurant shouldn't freshly ground pepper be the default? We had to ask for water. When we declined dessert, we got our check immediately. We hadn't asked for our check, and the place was still empty, so they didn't need our table. All in all, while the food was ok, the service was so disappointing that I'm unlikely to return.

    Delicious

One of the tastiest meals in the neighborhood, aside from it even being vegan. Great sandwiches.

    Definitely going back for more!

I don't know what the last reviewer is talking about. This restaurant was a delight in every way, from the delicious food to the soothing decor to the charm and friendliness of the staff. The value was right in line with the comparable restaurants in the neighborhood -- even a little better. My huband had the cheeseburger and I had the schnitzel and we left feeling more than satisfied. We're both new to veganism and this was the best experience we've had eating out so far. Neither of us missed the meat or dairy one bit. In fact, had I not known better, I would have thought we were eating meat, both by look at taste. Dessert was a cashew ice cream that could have fooled me into thinking it was Ben & Jerry's. Only the chai latte we ordered came on the lukewarm side. All in all, I'm so glad I found Blossom and I plan to become a regular. Just wish they delivered above 96th Street.
