A great find on our short stay in New York. Just a short walk away from our hotel we found this convenient cafe to be cosy, atmospheric and friendly. A million miles from the mundane and unemotional franchised eateries that seemed to dominate the rest of Manhattan. I would recommend the Amrita to local and tourist alike, whether seeking breakfast, brunch or a simple coffee. A delightful start to our time in NY.

Front of house staff are super unfriendly and don't like putting the sound on the tv's for sports events when customers ask. This sucks as it's the only reason to come to this cafe. The foods awful. The egg and cheese sandwich looks like and tastes like it's deep fried it's so greasy. The only nice staff are the cooks. The owner should just make them the front if house staff and the place would be a million times better.

I'm inspired to write because this is one of the only places around that still serves coffee AND wine AND beer AND food AND pastries. And I can attest that the wine and the chicken panini are really excellent, much better than I'd expect to find in a cafe, especially given the price ($6 Malbec, $8 sandwich+salad). Plus free wifi, laid-back atmosphere.

Cafe Amrita is the kind of coffee shop you'd expect to find in a small college town, not in NYC. There's plenty of space, free wi-fi, a laid back atmosphere, organic coffee, good sandwiches and salads, and it becomes a mellow bar at night. It's one of the best finds in the neighborhood if you are looking for a laid back lunch option or a place to get work done.

I live nearby and whenever I don't have anything for dinner at home, it'll be the Delicious turkey+brie sandwich on multigrain bread. I love all the food here, but even better is the atmosphere. I call it the "central perk" of the uws. ("friends" reference...) Whether it's brunch on the weekends, or a glass of wine after work, I am SO happy to have this place near me.

I love this little coffee shop. Unique and cozy, there is no place else like this. Great coffee, great music, a small town feel. This is the gem of the neighborhood!

First of all, I can't believe all the complains I'm reading on this spot right now that's why I'm forced to write a review about the cofee shop. The only thing I don't like about Cafe Amrita is its name, other than that this place is unique considering its location on the Upper West Side. I moved to the UWS from Williamsburg, Brooklyn therefore this is the type of coffee shop I seek: raw interiors, original, minimalist, not franchisee'. Amrita is very welcoming in all aspects and it has a variety of services including a bar! We should be thankful there is a spot like this on the UWS. If Starbucks is what u like go ahead there are all over town but don't complain about a jewel like this one. Thank u!
