Not for New Yorkers
Here's my review: If you are from the NYC area, do not go here. Tourists only. I think you all know what I mean! Ok, fine, I'll write something a little more informative: I know that the Seaport restaurants are pretty disappointing, but a coworker said she liked Cabana, so we gave it a try. The food was pretty unappetizing. I got shredded beef with rice and beans, and it was served like a bulls eye- with the beans on the bottom, a rice tee pee, and a blob of beef on top. How is rice greasy? And the beans were in a watery kind of sauce. Needless to say, we won't return. I will note, however, that the staff was great- the manager even comped our meal because he felt bad (and we didn't even complain or make a big deal about it! He just saw my plate had 3 bites taken from it). So that's that.

Great Hispanic Food
I arrived at the Cabana at 6:15 pm (Thursday, 5/5) with a party of 4 to celebrate my birthday. Considering my birthday is on Cinco de Mayo (5/5) one of the most busiest & festive time of the year, I was seated right away and sat by window isle overlooking the South St. Pier. To my surprise it was not loud and the atmosphere was great. My son & I ordered the Pollo con camarones which came with rice and tostones in a really nice decorated presentation. My daughter had the porkchops which came with rice and black beans, delicious, and my fiance had the skirt steak with rice and beans which was also really good. Portioned just right. The food was great, reasonably priced. Sangria was great. I recommend anyone looking to eat great Hispanic food to try Cabana and if you are looking to dance some salsa, head over to Sequoia, one level below Cabana, $5 cover charge.

Great Hispanic Food!
Found this restaurant on line and ate at South Street Seaport Location with two of my friends to finish off a great Saturday in the city! What a treat! It was a little hard to find the place because it is upstairs on the 3rd level, but it was well worth the effort to find it! Excellent food and service, not to mention the rum drinks! Wonderful Paella. I had the seafood and one of my friends had the one with chicken and chorizo...great smokey taste! Skirt steaks seemed popular and looked great. Avacado salad was good too! It's not cheap to eat there, but not super expensive either... depends on what you order and your choice of cocktails. Service was excellent ,. but we did have to wait about 30 minutes to be seated on a busy Saturday PM. Would be fun in the summer since there is an open deck that looks over the waterfront.

Perfecta!
Perhaps those people that went in the last 4 months were dissatisfied, but I went just last week with some coworkers for lunch and we had a fabulous time. Yes, there was noise but it's a large restaurant - not an intimate one and we were able to converse with each other easily. Upon arrival, we were seated almost immediately, waited on courteously and promptly. Our waiter made suggestions when we placed our order & he was right. The food arrived soon after and was delicious. I'm going again and again and I'm bringing others. Our lunch for 4 with drinks and tip came out to $20 per person. One of the reviewers said the restaurant was expensive. You call a $20 non buffet lunch expensive - in Manhattan? Well, sorry to disagree but - I call it one of the best kept secrets. Every restaurant isn't for everyone but I love Spanish/Cuban food and this restaurant is great! The only reason I didn't give atmosphere a rating of 5 is because, although the shades were pulled down to prevent the sun from coming in, the sun peered through the spaces between shades and hit me square on the side of my face. However, everything else was so good I couldn't let a little sun get in the way of my good time. Oh, and P.S. If you don't like where you are being seated in a restaurant and you see lots of empty tables in the front, you can ask to be seated there.
