Worth a Visit - Enjoy the Specials

Have walked past this place for a number of years and never knew what I was evidently missing. Neighbor suggested we try their Sunday night mussel special. So we did and we were very glad we did. There are a variety of mussels to choose from and we sampled three…marinieres, provencal and marocain. All were very good, down to the last dip of bread in the juice. The accompanying frites were served hot and cooked just perfect. A neighboring table was served an order of the Belgium Style Spare Ribs and the tower of ribs gave me food envy. The way they devoured them indicates envy they deserved. Apparently they have a Saturday night special for the ribs so you know where I’ll be on Saturday night soon. The range of reasonably priced salads and dishes we noticed being served elsewhere all looked plentiful and worthy of a try. The service was attentive and friendly. It would seem for those in the mood for fine Belgian fare and a wide selection of cold beer BXL will meet your expectations.

    Lindeman's Lambic on Tap

I'm somewhat surprised at all the negative reviews. I've been a few times and the food is very good and as a plus they have Lindeman's Framboise Lambic on tap and other flavors in the bottle. I agree that the service isn't stellar. They are now on seamless web and I ordered from there once- food was timely and great!

    Embarassment

Unfortunately I have given the restaurant multiple shots at forgiveness but they disappoint time and time again. I am a sucker for fresh Belgian beer and that is what brings me back, but no more. The beers are always shy and costly. Service is pathetic, and waitresses don't care. Ownership is almost always on premises playing with their laptop and rooting for their team. When he needs to get involved it is even further frustrating. This experience was special in the sense they really had a chance to display understanding and offer a true apology. Food came out wrong and upon sending back he just blamed the cook and didn't offer to comp the item or offer a beer. When another fifteen minutes passed we decided to pay and leave. For full transparency, please understand there was ONE other table filled.

    Subpar Food, Service

BXL on E 51st is a terrible restaurant, for both food and service. The food is bland and tasteless, but far worse is the service. Poor management makes this restaurant not worth it.

    What a shame!

Two friends and I went to BXL last Friday night. The bar was fairly empty and we were 1 of 3 tables of customers eating. So many problems. First- the service was atrocious. We started with a decent waitress- however- when her shift was over, she did not let us know and we waited FOREVER for another server. Then we could not get our beers (which were clearly under poured especially for the $$) refilled for 20-25 minutes periods. We actually sat at our table waving our arms as if we were flagging down an ambulance, in order to get a waiter's attention. When we asked for another round- it of course came out wrong as our original waitress did not inform the waiter of our orders. The soup special for the night was black bean. 2 of the 3 of us ordered it. It came out in a turrine and was served at room temerature. The portion size (I never complain when it is too big) was enormous and should have been hot. The mussels...BLAH! Nothing tasty or flavorful about them. Overall, with all the new bars in midtown east- this bar has limited chance of survival. I know 3 people for sure that will never return. Weak food, poor service...GOOD BYE BXL!

    Good Beer Selection

Been here twice for drinks with friends/clients. The bar food isnt bad, but the drink selection is great. Service is hit or miss, first time i went we had a great service, but last time was not good. Didnt see the waiter all night, if we were stuck with the automatic gratuity I wouldve dinged this specific wait staff person 10%. Def worth a try though

    Decent

This place is decent. It has a solid selection of Belgian beer and the food is passable. It's more bar than restaurant so if you are looking for a quieter Belgian setting look elsewhere
