What a shame!
Two friends and I went to BXL last Friday night. The bar was fairly empty and we were 1 of 3 tables of customers eating. So many problems. First- the service was atrocious. We started with a decent waitress- however- when her shift was over, she did not let us know and we waited FOREVER for another server. Then we could not get our beers (which were clearly under poured especially for the $$) refilled for 20-25 minutes periods. We actually sat at our table waving our arms as if we were flagging down an ambulance, in order to get a waiter's attention. When we asked for another round- it of course came out wrong as our original waitress did not inform the waiter of our orders. The soup special for the night was black bean. 2 of the 3 of us ordered it. It came out in a turrine and was served at room temerature. The portion size (I never complain when it is too big) was enormous and should have been hot. The mussels...BLAH! Nothing tasty or flavorful about them. Overall, with all the new bars in midtown east- this bar has limited chance of survival. I know 3 people for sure that will never return. Weak food, poor service...GOOD BYE BXL!

Good Beer Selection
Been here twice for drinks with friends/clients. The bar food isnt bad, but the drink selection is great. Service is hit or miss, first time i went we had a great service, but last time was not good. Didnt see the waiter all night, if we were stuck with the automatic gratuity I wouldve dinged this specific wait staff person 10%. Def worth a try though

Decent
This place is decent. It has a solid selection of Belgian beer and the food is passable. It's more bar than restaurant so if you are looking for a quieter Belgian setting look elsewhere

Great Belgian Treats!
We were searching the neighborhood for a restaurant and stumbled upon BXL. We thought it was a normal bar, but pleasantly surprised to see tables and a restaurant atmosphere in the back. The mussels and frites were great, and the house beer is EXCELLENT. I'm not a beer drinker, and I will be back for a glass real soon! The service was friendly, and the manager(?) even gave a big thanks on the way out- makes me feel like they appreciate our business. Note- ask for extra bread to soak up the juice at the bottom of the mussel pot!

fabulous mussels, many varieties
Friends and I went to this restaurant Sunday night for "all you can eat" mussels. We had white wine and garlic and Thai style coconut milk etc. The presentation in a huge covered pot was really wonderful: the lid becomes the "shell" dish and when filled was taken away frequently. The mussels themselves were very tender and cooked to perfection. Both varieties that we had were very well seasoned and delicious. Got 2lbs of mussels, excellent beer and frites for $20!!! plus a second helping of mussels. Service was friendly and very efficient.
