Great place to go if you're totally deaf!
Am absolutely amazed that anyone would go to this restaurant more than once! Tried it for the first time at lunch, and while the food was perfectly OK, my friend and I could not talk above the unbelievable din emanating from our fellow diners. The noise level was so bad that I came home hoarse and will never go again! Also, the service was quite slow, though the servers themselves were pleasant.

No soggy frites here!
I had a great lunch of onion soup, mussels and fries. The soup was excelent, the mussels perfectly cooked and the fries plentiful and crispy. Although there were only three waitstaff working a busy dining room, service was wonderful.

Great Midtown Cafe
BXL Cafe is a very small place that was crowded on a Thursday night, but it has great ambiance. The food was fantastic and the service was excellent. We only waited 5 minutes for a table. There are some booths and a small table in the corner, which we sat at. We never felt rushed and the food was delivered, and dishes cleared, promptly. Many business men were at the bar and mostly New Yorkers at the tables. I think we were the only tourists there. This is definitely not on a tourist list and if you don't like small, crowded places, don't go. We will return on our next trip to NYC and recommend it to all.

Good food and beer
I see all the complaints about soggy fries, but I had a delicious croque monsieur with crispy fries just last week. The Duvel hit the spot on a hot and humid day. I'll be back.

Poor frites
Belgians are known for their frites. BXL has a great selection of Belgian ales and beer but their frites are something to be desired. The frites here are soggy and indedible as opposed to crispy and golden. My roasted chicken was average at best. A fun place to drink and watch European football but not really worth the money for the food. Service was decent.

Light beer haters paradise
Had tix to a show at Town Hall next door - came upon the BXL Cafe by accident - seen the awning with the Duvel logo and thought SCORE !! Sampled several of the taps that I had not heard of and finished off with two Chimay Cinq Cents and then two more Delirum Tremens. Oh.. we ordered some apps too - The calamari was cooked perfectly, had a nice cheese plate and an order of delicious CRISPY fries. The bartender was a great guy and was very polite to all of the boobs asking for lite beer and non alcholic brews. We'll be back!!

Go for the beer SKIP the food
Most disappointing meal I've had in New York. Have to agree with a previous reviewer, fries were soggy and not very tasty -- my husband got the steak frites, I just tried his. I was in the mood for pasta so I got the Primavera. I like salt as much as the next guy, but this was the saltiest dish I have ever had. Service left a lot to be desired as well.
