Great food, but restaurant needs improvement.
To their credit, the food is so good it's hard to enjoy your time there due to crowds. That's nice for them, not so great for the customer. Breakfast is wonderful and the French Toast is amazing. They were a tad snooty, but it's high-end New York eating... as to be expected.

Eh ... Bland
Plus side - Duck meatloaf - tasty. Ribs - too boiled with flavor just on the top layer; popovers with honey, boring; hush puppies, bland, and the aioli too oily; fried chicken - good crunch but bland; pasta - bland - get the idea. Yes, this is comfort food, but it should have some flavor.

Dear Buttermilk...
You wow me with you gourmet food, you sass me with your style, you do the kind of things to me that always drive me wild. Knocked out by your food - cheese waffles, fish, steak, and the only hush puppies to cross my lips. I will be back.

Great bday dinner
I took my parents here for my father's birthday and we had a great dinner. The hush puppies w/ green chile aioli were delicious as was the salads. My parents had the steak, but didn't want the hash browns & the restaurant was accommodating to substitute. I had the trout (excellent) & my BF had the cranberry bean stew (excellent). The service was great and we all enjoyed ourselves.

not impressed by food
the atmosphere was very nice, the wait staff extremely attentive and friendly (perhaps they listened to past reviews), but the food gets a 5 out of 10. the oysters were fresh, the seared scallops were nice, the duck meatloaf was sweet and lacked body as did those sweet popovers which each of us didn't finish, the fried chicken was bland, though moist. i wish the crust was more crispy. haven't they discovered salt as a condiment yet. the pecan pie dessert was very good. for amost 250 (with tip) for three, i expected something a cut or three above normal and that i didn't get. sorry. i wish it were great, but alas, no.

What's Everyone Talking About?
Went last night to pick up a gift card (as we have dined here before)and decided to come back for dinner. Let me say the restaurant was hopping. Great vibe, great atmosphere, long wait, but well worth it. From the hostess to the bar staff to the wait staff all were attentive and hospitable. Ordered the Fried Chicken which was outstanding and the Delmonico Steak- excellent, cooked to perfection! This restaurant is one of the best of new neighborhood restaurants that we have been to. Maybe management took their cue from the reviews below because everything worked!!

We're here for service and food. Not just food.
Played my favorite Cheryl Lynn record (Shake it up tonight) while I dolled up for my night out. I had heard the food here was yum, so I had expectations higher than my stilettos. Well, the food was delicious, but I hear the lady reviewer below. If I want someone to act bored and yawn in my face I will stay home and play with my cat. And stop hanging out - you are not in a band! If I want a nice meal out, I expect the staff to be engaged. Message to the staff: you only work in a restaurant, you can drop the attitude. Be friendly and we will tip well and enjoy our evening better. Shake it up tonight!
