    Great place

We love going to this restaurant / bar for drinks and food. The tuna appetizer is great. If you are looking for a bar and have some food with friends this is a nice place to go, very convinient and good relax atmosphere.

    Bring back the old days

I used to come here all the time. Even had my company party there twice, and kept returning because of our bartender for our 1st party who was the most attentive bartender i have ever encountered. she even got my father, who i swore wouldnt stay more than 5 min, to stay the entire night by talking to him about law related issues (i think she was becoming a lawyer?). That meant a lot to me. Because of the service, i went almost every sat with my friends so we can have a relaxed, yet fun, night. THe music was great & the patrons were all fun to be around. Lately, however, the atmosphere has changed. It isnt the classy/fun place it once was and it has become more of a typical sat night bar. I still go for happy hour bc the food is still great & its close to my office, but until they revert back to their old days,i wont be returning on weekends to hang out with loud & obnoxious drunk messes. Batenders are no where near s attentive as they staff they had in the past & it takes away from the fun. Bring Charley & Becky back asap or restaff!

Good old American bar and restaurant

I find it a bit ironic that in the reviews I have read so far, there has been a bit of criticism for this place and yet it still receives four stars. I have been to this place quite a few times now and not once was I disappointed. The food is good, but I wouldn't say excellent. They serve in my opinion, large amounts of food for the entrees. I can never finish everything everytime I dine here. So the value is good. The atmosphere of the place is nicely decorated with chandeliers and pretty clean. The service has been excellent for me and my friends at least everytime we are here. I gotta say the waiters and waitresses are very attentive. They would come back time to time in the midst of our meals just to ask us how is everything going. Overall, it is a pleasant dining experience everytime I had been here. But I would recommend that you should come during the busy hours for the drinks and during the non-busy hours for the food. But that's just me though, I prefer to dine in a place when it's quiet.

    Gone Downhill

This place used to serve decent food, but I'm not sure what's happened. The fries were barely cooked, along w/ the grilled cheese. It was visibly obvious that the cheese slices weren't melted. Even the pretzel bread that comes out has been stale, clearly not fresh baked. The only thing that remains decent are the wings.

    Nothing to Rave About

This place serves upscale bar food and there's nothing more to it. Stick with just getting a drink here with friends. This place would be better if they JUST served REGULAR BAR FOOD and didn't try to be something they're not.

Fine for drinks, food is subpar

I have to say i am a foodie - love delicacies, unique and equisite flavor combinations, and the like. That being said, i did not expect a gourmet meal at a local bar. I DID expect edible basics. Instead i received soggy and overly salted wings as well as a creamy artichoke dip that tasted like it belonged in a high school cafeteria. And that was just the starters. This was followed by a bland steak sandwich that was in essence warm deli meat that they should be embarassed to serve. Overall, i would recommend this spot for drinks but NEVER for food!

    Neighborhood Gem

I have been coming to this establishment since its early days. I feel like as of late they really have their act together. The staff is great, the food is great and although it can get crowded, its always cool people. I don't think there is tons to choose from in this area of NYC. But Butterfield 8 is a true stand out, you have to give it try (or a second chance).
