    Only 3.5 stars !!?

Damn people, these cupcakes are excellent. Although I feel sick after I eat one I usually embellish at least once per month. When my girlfriend is in a bad mood I run up 5 blocks, buy one cupcake and the bad mood disapears ! Try it out.

    dry cake, good frosting

I've given Buttercup a few tries but always find the same thing: their cupcakes taste as if they've been sitting around for weeks. The cake is so incredibly dry, I usually take a bite and throw it away. The only thing worth stopping in for is the frosting. The frosting on the lemon cupcake is sweet, bitter, and citrusy... I regularly find myself craving that lemon frosting... If only they could sell the cupcakes without the cake...

A haven for anyone w/ a sweet tooth!

Try their cream spice cupcake -its to die for!! Wasn't crazy for their devil dog/red velvet though.. but nevertheless, i keep coming back to this place! when i'm not dieting that is!

    Waaaay to sweet!

I love sweet things but the icing overpowers the cupcake. I get a headache after i eat them. I love to go out during my lunch break to get a snack and have gone to Buttercup on serveral occasions. Three strikes...you're out! IThe cake is too dry and icing too sweet. (imagine puting 10 candy corns and those valentines hearts in you mouth at the same time ...thats what the icing taste like.) I dont write alot of reviews but i felt compellled to do so today because of my negative experiences. People usually exaggerate on this site but believe the reviews this time.

    Great cupcakes, only ok atmosphere

The cupcakes here are REALLY good. Unfortunately, it lacks the cute atmosphere of Magnolia. Still- well worth heading over there to try a cupcake or two.

only if you have a REAL sweet tooth

I don't understand why people go to a bakery and order sweets and then complain about it being too sweet. For those of you with a real sweet tooth, this is the place. The frosting is absolutely delicious, almost makes me drool uncontrollably. The banana pudding is also superb. I tried a cupcake from magnolia and was completely disgruntled, hearing how it was supposed to be the best in the city. buttercup beat it by far.

    Not worth it

I have given this places way too many chances. Perhaps some of the cakes are good. I didn't care for the German chocolate cake which was a bit dry. The cupcakes are just subpar. Dry tasteless cake topped with sugar cream not butter cream. I decided to give them one more chance and bought twenty cupcakes ($2.00 each)for my son's class party. It was an embarrassing disaster. Dry and sugary is one thing, but they tasted like they had been sitting around for weeks. They were hardly touched. I really should have demanded my money back. I will definitely not be returning till they learn how to bake and sell fresh products.
